My husband found this in the garage of one of his customers. He ended up trading the labor for the job for it. It’s 5 foot tall and 5 foot long and very heavy. It’s a cast aluminum replica. When we get a chance, I want to turn it over to see if I can find any markings on it to help find out more about it. That’s two of Magweno’s Dragon Foxes sitting on him. Just above them if Toothless looking like he just found lunch. 🙂

Totally agreed! I’ve been trying to find a carousel horse I can afford for years. Excellent find!

September 11, 2013 at 3:03 am #902527You can always find carousel animals of some kind for sale on Ebay. But just like all antiques, you gotta know what you are buying. There are a lot of high-priced fakes!
The fakes are great too, long as they are represented honestly, and priced accordingly.September 11, 2013 at 6:22 pm #902548He isn’t really a replica, I don’t think it is a real carousel hose, im pretty sure he is a real coke advertisement though, they are pretty hard to come by I think. If it were mine I would find someone who knows about coke advertisements because some of them are worth good amounts of money.
If anyone is interested in looking at some amazing art in the form of carousel animals look at this http://www.timracer.com/ .
September 11, 2013 at 7:55 pm #902552That’s so cool! There is an old wooden carousel in Washington on the Brazos state park. It’s in this little tiny plastic house/hut locked away. I’ve been told they only bring it out on special occasions. You can see through the cracks and peek at the carousel. Its very pretty!
I remember Melody posting about a carousel project that was going on in Oregon. I will have to try to find the post. The carousel animals were the most ornate and beautiful Ive ever seen!
Yours is lovely. That was a very lucky find.September 11, 2013 at 9:33 pm #902554I think this horse of yours is just wonderful! -especially if it is a coke ad!
I love seeing your collections; the horse fits perfectly.
Here’s a link to the webpage about the Carousel they are building in Albany ( next town over from Corvallis) http://albanycarousel.com/September 11, 2013 at 11:09 pm #902556No, it’s not a real carousel horse, but it is a real replica of one. I found out that it is one of the replicas made by a company in Mexico of carousel horses made by Herschell, Spillman and Parker that were made at the turn of the century. They didn’t have permission to use the Coca Cola name on the stand and were made to stop doing that. So, the stand may or may not increase the value. Plus, with the exception of some paint missing on the post, it’s in very good condition. I’m really lucky to have found one this nice. I know that there are a lot of fake wood carousel horses out there, but evidently these aluminum ones were such a pain to make, that nobody bothered copying them. They were only made for a short time. It’s nice to find out some history on it. Doesn’t matter what it’s worth. It’s not going anywhere. 🙂

Thats super interesting!
September 13, 2013 at 12:06 am #902609Interesting indeed! And I’d imagine the Coca Cola labeling *does* make it more valuable.
I’ve chased a couple of actual carousel horses on ebay & craigslist before, but either cost or that gut feeling of “something’s off here” have kept this particular thing from happening. One of these days…
September 13, 2013 at 6:02 am #902620Neat find!
Ha ha, I can’t get past toothless in the background looking at his meal =P
