October 3, 2007 at 6:04 pm #622666I wonder if he was a prototype around the same time as my dragon. Mine has the same purple gems and the same painted outline around the gems, only mine has his outline painted in blue. Mine also has more of the painted blue, violet and gold dots on him. This may be a different test paint version of the same prototype.
By the way, my dragon feels like he’s found a long lost brother. 😀
October 3, 2007 at 6:06 pm #622667That is a awesome dragon. Congrats on the find.

Thanks! Yours is beautiful too. Great to have a sibling out there! 😀 I guess I never realized how unique he was until now. Makes me appreciate it that much more…..
October 3, 2007 at 7:38 pm #622669He’s really very unique! what are the rust colored splotches on the underside around the felt? he look like one of those really old, rough bottoms ones we’ve come across, did he come with the splotches or did he sit in something?

As far as I can tell, that area between the end of the felt is just the color of the unpainted (or unfinished piece). I don’t know how these were made. It reminds me of some pieces I have seen when people do ceramics. He’s never sat in anything except a glass display case in my homes. So, he must have come that way.
October 3, 2007 at 8:43 pm #622671Nice…I keep wanting an all black dragon, with red or orange eyes like this…kinda looks sinister 😈
You should post pics of your entire collection now 😀

I hadn’t noticed those before. Maybe he was a brown that was repainted a test color.
October 3, 2007 at 11:12 pm #622673I don’t think so. The spots don’t look like paint. And the rest of the paint is so good and so professional, there is not even a hint of brown anywhere on it (or even green for that matter). Would someone really have been able to do a repaint this good 20 years ago and then put him in retail store? That doesn’t seem likely, does it? Did people repaint them that long ago?

I have been fooled before with photos, but this one has all the marks of a real one:
I did make a few pure black dragons with orange eyes like this, I experimented with subtle colors trying to get a “gun metal” look
We did sell to the Wicks ‘n Sticks and Tinderbox stores,
That looks like a real pad and stamp (no fakes we have ever seen have had imitation Windstone pads)
and about the time this one was made, we used to dip our freshly cast pieces into a bath of thinned down brown acrylic stain. This would account for the drippy brown markings on the bottom.Yup, I really think that is one of ours!
This is a very rare dragon! I am so glad you found this forum, so you can show him off!October 4, 2007 at 1:13 am #622675Very good news from the MASTER herself
