is there a gap under his wings? cause he looks very close to one of the fakes I have come across that is a direct mold, but he looks pretty real, maybe someone painted him all black though, I thought that a relative of mine had a black dragon family, mother, father and hatchling, but I never confirmed that. I wish I could ask what color they really were.
October 3, 2007 at 3:44 am #622650Does he have a felt or a Windstone stamp on the bottom?
October 3, 2007 at 4:10 am #622651Wow, that’s really strange looking… kinda cool. The eyes and jewels are the same as the old green. If he’s from ’86 or ’87, I can’t imagine he’s a fake. But he looks… unfinished. The other picture (top angle) in your Photobucket gives me a better idea of his look though.
October 3, 2007 at 6:22 am #622652Wow, he is an odd one, to be sure.

LMAO!! DM, you’re so funny 😆
but, WOW, he sure is different! He’s really black, not Navy? Melody, was the store owner correct, did someone really special order him? I mean…..could you do that? Or did they order a Peacock, do you think…and this guy just HAPPENED to be an oddity?October 3, 2007 at 9:02 am #622654I checked him against my other dragons (Green, white and Peacock males that I have). He has the same wing design as they do. There is a small gap at the very tip of the wings before they attach to the body. He has felt on the bottom that has the Windstone stamp, just like the others. He came from a retail store, so I doubt he is a fake. There were only two stores near me that sold them. One was a Wicks N Sticks candle store and the other was this Cigar store that sold these statues.
October 3, 2007 at 9:57 am #622655Wow…that’s a unique dragon…I like him: -)
October 3, 2007 at 1:50 pm #622656How cool! If he has the felt pad (and he has the ‘right’ eyes and gem) then I cannot imagine that he’s fake. We’ll have to see what Melody says about his paint job! 🙂

My art: featherdust.comOctober 3, 2007 at 1:53 pm #622657Wow! That is neat! He looks very cool!
October 3, 2007 at 1:53 pm #622658I think he’s an old green someone sprayed black…His stone is purple like the old greens and his eyes look right but if he were done by the factory wouldn’t his crest have the gold tipping? 🙂
October 3, 2007 at 3:22 pm #622659He actually does have a series of gold accents on his claws, tail, tips of his wings and on various points of his body. He also has the Pena 86 copyright stamp on the back near his tail like the others. Beneath the jewel in his forward are some blue and purple spots too. You can’t see them well from the angle I have photgraphed him.
As I said, I ‘ve had him for twenty years and this is how he looked the day I got him.
October 3, 2007 at 3:30 pm #622660Hmmmm….if he turns out to be the genuine article he’s an awesome find! Sorry for being critical of him, we’ve seen some pretty impressive fakes at times. 🙂
October 3, 2007 at 3:50 pm #622661Quite a remarkable fellow. He’s got a lot of the earmarks of a genuine Windstone. 🙂 Like purplecat said, we’ve seen an awful lot of fakes; this makes the factory variants harder to spot. But on the other hand, it’s even more cool when one does turn up! Congratulations on your handsome boy, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed as to his pedigree. 🙂
October 3, 2007 at 4:03 pm #622662Thanks to everyone for all the great feedback. Blackfire is a treasure in my collection and he has always been a subject of discussion from people that see him. I’ve posted a few more pictures as well to show what I’ve been saying….
October 3, 2007 at 4:10 pm #622663Wow, very nice! I’m not really a fan of black dragons, but he sure is a beauty. I hope he’s genuine too. I can’t wait to see what Melody posts about him.
