That is almost certainly a red-tailed hawk primary feather. Barred owls do not have so much ‘slotting’ to the feather shape, and have a notable ‘fringe’ along the leading edge. 🙂

This feather will be well guarded. 😀
I always wished to own one. 😀October 18, 2008 at 9:37 am #736588Just be very careful, if you know what I mean. Wouldnt want the law on your door step. 🙄
Nice find though, and congratulations. May it bring you and the land it was found on, much luck, peace and prosperity.
October 18, 2008 at 5:07 pm #736589I don’t know what the laws are in Canada- she might be ‘safe’. 🙂 Regardless, I am glad you saw and photoed such a nice feather… 😉 Best wishes, BDW!

I’ve search in natural resources Canada and can’t find anything that it says it’s illegal so I’ll call on monday and see what they sayOctober 18, 2008 at 7:57 pm #736591Sheesh, in the States it’s not even legal to own feathers you find? I guess anybody could say they found feathers even if they poached them, but still… 😕 I’ve got a small collection of red-tail primaries; most were taken from a hawk that I found dead by the barn near our house. They’re really pretty feathers.

The only thing that’s illegal would be to find a dead protected animal, like a lynx. Then you can’t touch it, you have to call in for the gov. to take care of it.
