I was wondering, can anyone tell me roughly how much weight a 1/4″ glass shelve can hold? I have been searching google, but im not getting a definitive answer.
From what im reading…I guess it depends on the brackets holding the glass, if its tempered… and the thickness….???
I guess what I want to know is, I want to put an Old Warrior and a Scratcher on the same shelf. The combined weight that would be on the shelf is 23.2 lbs.
One of my glass shelvs has some griffins, a candleholder, and a mouse wiz.
the combined weight on this shelf is 20.80 lbsI guess its only a 2.4lb difference…but Im nervious putting a big dragon on a glass shelf. If anyone can help, please let me know.
Thank you!Kalandra
April 22, 2011 at 2:26 pm #843149The sticker on my shelves said no more than 25 lbs per shelf and I even put the heavy pieces on the ends over the brackets. Look to see if your shelves have a dip in the middle from the weight and take pieces off if necessary.
After what several people have gone through I just went to a glass place and had shelves made to fit that are 3/8″ thick and have put several big pieces on them with no dip in the middle so I’m sure I’m okay with the weight. Just watch the weight for the 1/4″ shelves specially in the middle and the fact that even the little ones can add up quickly.
April 22, 2011 at 3:18 pm #843155Not much of an answer, but personally what I do when I get a new shelving unit-(all mine are wood/particle board though) I put something a little heavier than the Windstone/s that will be going on the shelf but not breakable-like a heavy book (or books) or big giant soup cans-and let it stand for few days. If the shelf supports the books/cans then it can hold a dragon. You might break your shelf this way, but at least you wont break a Windstone
April 22, 2011 at 3:44 pm #843158I am terrified of glass shelves. I might consider putting smaller pieces on glass but never something any bigger than maybe a flapcat. All of the shelves I have are solid wood (I use barrister bookcases wherever possible, since theyre built to sustain the weight of textbooks, and have glass doors to protect from dust).
April 22, 2011 at 6:41 pm #843172I think it depends on the distribution of the weight also. Like one narrow heavy thing in the middle of the shelf would break it more readily than two wider heavy things on the ends of the shelf over the bracket.
