Goldfish, tricks? They have a two second attention span. They don’t even remember if they ate or not. At least mine didn’t. When I first moved away I left my large aquarium at my parents. My mom gave them a years worth of food in less than a month. They didn’t live long in that mess. I took a smaller aquarium and moved what I had left. I only have a pleco left. He’s now too big to be put in with other fish. He’ll just attack them. The only fish he gets along with are betas. They get along very well. I’ve only been able to teach them to take food from my fingers. I guess that was a trick.
π Admittedly fish tricks aren’t sophisticated, but I’ve got a big orange comet who will nibble on my fingers whenever I put my hand in the tank, whether there’s food in them or not, and if I hold my hand curled and very still he’ll swim over and “sit” in it. I think that’s a good job of learning for a fishy.

You never had Oscars! We had two and we loved them to death (literally). π₯ We didn’t know feeding them live food would give them hole in the head disease. I still feel bad and miss them – they were smart, beautiful, wonderful fish.
I have never heard of hole in the head disease???January 23, 2007 at 7:16 am #524343Greater Basilisk wrote:I dunno. There are some fish with the same brain siye that are smarter than that. Like goldfish. I wouldn-t think of fish as intelligent or anything, but I-ve taught mine a few simple tricks.
Yes, you can teach a goldfish tricks – but you can teach mice much more sophisticated ones.
Not that I HAVE, mind you – I don’t spend time training my mice to put themselves into the ‘dive’ position so that when they DO get fed to snakes they’re easier to swallow…. honest!

Hum, actually you’re right. I had a shubunkin that would “sit” in my hand. I guess that’s a trick. And all of my goldfish would nibble on my fingers. I had to be carefull though. My mom was babysitting (he was an older kid) the kid managed to catch one of my goldfish, dropped it on the floor, then proceded to “play” with it. My poor fish. I found him and saved my fish but, it was close. I guess the kid didn’t understand that most fish can’t breath air.January 23, 2007 at 12:51 pm #524346Dragon Master wrote:lamortefille wrote:Dragon Master wrote:I would say so since I have NEVER heard of a fish taking food directly from humans hand

Oh, I’ve heard of that. Awful. There are alot of very discusting fish diseases and parasites.January 23, 2007 at 12:53 pm #524347Ssthisto wrote:Greater Basilisk wrote:I dunno. Mice are okay. They are interesting. But, rats are just the coolest. If I didn’t have cats, I would have rats.January 24, 2007 at 5:42 am #524348Dragon Master wrote:again with the killing thing. LALALALALA

Dumb kid. Where’s he get his biology lessons from?
I have a shubunkin too, but it and the fantail are much shyer than the comet. I haven’t tried to teach them anything.January 24, 2007 at 6:49 am #524351mimitrek wrote:Dragon Master wrote:again with the killing thing. LALALALALA

Not to mention too aggressive and too fuzzy – all that hair would be horrible to have to clean up afterwards!
Grey squirrels might LOOK cute, but they’re tree rats with good PR and an attitude.
January 24, 2007 at 7:41 am #524355good way of putting it!!
