December 14, 2006 at 4:41 am #515058I am so happy to hear your kitty is doing better!!! 😆 I am also a cat lover, I have 3. My old man, as we call him around here is 14, has been through partial kidney failure when he was 5, and is still alive and kicking the “kittens” butts around once in a while. The kittens are actually 3 but been with me since birth. My first PYO griffin is painted in their style (black and white, like those cows…aaah I forget the name. Holestiens maybe? 😛 ).

December 14, 2006 at 6:46 pm #515060Drag0n, I’m really happy to hear that Bubbas is feeling better! I have 3 cats, one of which is 18 and a half and she has better bloodwork than my mom…..ROFL My other cat wears diapers, and the third is a Virginian mountain cat….(no real such breed, but he’s from Virginia and is HUGE, going on 20 lbs)…They all send thier love too!
December 14, 2006 at 7:26 pm #515061I have a slew of them myself, but Bubbas is the “Supreme Lord & Master Grand Pubaa” of them all. I’m actually at an all time low of 6 currently.
Shady is the next in line of my old kitties. He’s a BEAUTIFUL Birman/Manx crossbreed and has triple paws. He’s like a big furry teady bear! I’m pretty sure he’s 12 now.
Then Owen is our fraidy cat. He looks like the grey tabby flap cat minus the wings of course. He got his whole rear end run over by a car when he was about 2 and my sister and her husband put up 15,000 dollars for his reconstructive surgery. His back legs and a good part of his hips and pelvis are all metal plates and screws, but he bounced right back and you’d never really know he was hurt. He’s 11 now.
Snickers is my little spoiled brat princess. Shes a tuxedo cat who is basically the Britney Spears of the household. She’s an antisocial snob, but I love her. She’s pushing 12 in March.
Then there is The Notorious B.E.G. which we just call her Black Kitty. She’s only 2 now and weighs about 26 pounds now. She’s one of those cats that is like a giant beanie baby and will pretty much let you do whatever you want to her without putting up a fuss. She’s good with kids =)
Let’s see, we sort of adopted a stray and when we got him checked at the vet he has feline Aids. We’ve been trying to find a home for him for over a year, but nobody wants him. He’s very friendly, but has had a toungh life. When we found him he had terrible mange and got him checked at the vet. That’s when we found out he had aids. He stuck around for a few months and dissappeared. Then came back about 6 months ago with a broken leg and his bones showing through his fur he was so thin. It was awful. We set it with popcicle sticks and gave him childrens motrin and after a few weeks he was fine. Now he’s big, furry, and fat and still needs a home if anyone knows of someone looking for a cat. He’s good with other animals, but shouldn’t be with other cats if it can be helped. He’s been with us for 2 years though and none of our cats have contracted aids thus far. We named him Hiva as kind of joke. My sister calls him Aidsy. Poor guy.

YEP it’s a feline sort but does the same thing as far as I know
December 14, 2006 at 9:20 pm #515064Yup, they can get HIV too but it’s called Feline Immune Defficency Virus, or FIV. It spreads exactly the same way as himan aids too, so it is difficult for other cats to catch, but it IS possible. It’s not the same as human or another animal’s HIV though. For example, blood to blood contact with him won’t infect a person, or a dog, but only another cat.

December 14, 2006 at 9:26 pm #515066$15,000 on a cat is insane. Sorry, but that’s just extreme in my view. There’s some love behind that.

It is a lot of money, but if your pet is like your child…you will do anything for it.

Well, 10 years ago was a very different time. My sister and her exhusband were pretty successful drug dealers at the time and had money to blow on just about anything you can imagine. I was about 14 years old when that all stopped and he got thrown into jail. Since then I started living with her when I turned 18 and it’s been just the two of us since and no we’re not drug dealers =)
I’d have ALOT more Windstones if that was the case LOL!

But, if it came right down to it I’d probably try to afford it. My cats are my babies. I was supposed to take my Romeo to a neurologist. I never did, I just couldn’t see myself spending that kind of money just a appease a vets curiosity. He somehow paralized half of his face. He couldn’t move the right side of his face for about six months. That included blinking.I had to put a cream in his eye every 4 hours like clockwork. Very difficult since I normally worked anywhere from 6 to 9 hours a day. I remember calling Dr. Lepp in tears because his ear twitched. I was so happy he was getting better.
I must say Dr. Lepp was a very very helpful vet. She went way beyond expectations. She resurched, and called specialists, etc. She emailed me information about his problem. And instead of making me pay for an overpriced medication for his eye, she sent me to the drug store and told me what to look for. 😀 It’s hard to find a good vet but, when I do I hang on to them for as long as possible.
December 14, 2006 at 11:58 pm #515071Vets seem to flock together also. I had a WONDERFUL vet in Hayward/Castro Valley. when I moved she recommended my new vet and both have been god sends
