Oooo that Ki-Rin is looking good. Love the colors.
June 4, 2008 at 9:24 pm #709461Thanks, I almost wish you could get a choice on the colour of the horn. A silver one would have worked nicely.
June 4, 2008 at 9:24 pm #709462The only way I’ve found to get the scales to be flat is to start with a smaller brush to get them coated. I usually do more than one coat. Then once they are dry go back over them with a larger flat brush like this one.
It sometimes can take a few layers, but it seems to work for me.
June 4, 2008 at 9:42 pm #709463I’ll try that, thanks. WindstoneCollector also suggested that I thin my paint down more than I do now.
June 4, 2008 at 9:50 pm #709464I forgot to mention that brush is 1/4″ wide. π I use it on all the scales, not just the large belly scales.
June 4, 2008 at 9:53 pm #709465Wow, the antiquing really looks stunning! I liked her before, but she looks ever better now! And I love the colors on the new Kirin, she really looks wonderful!
June 5, 2008 at 6:04 am #709466I don’t know how I missed this thread, but I really like that kirin.
June 5, 2008 at 1:24 pm #709467That kirin is delicious!
The wolf is looking great too! π

Delicious? You wanna eat it? π It does look nice, Jasmine. And the wolf is breathtaking! Are you going to sell them or keep them?

Thanks guys. I don’t think these two are quite nice enough to sell. I’m still perfecting my techniques. But I’m slowly getting there. π

I use that size brush at all times on the belly scales. π Side scales, I undercoat with a darker color than what I will be ending with and then thinly brush the paint over them in may layers until I get a flat look. I think I did pretty good on Kujacker’s Ki-Rin, but it took me a couple to figure out what worked best for me. π So, my best advice is, take what you need from all the advice and eventually you will figure out what works best for you. π

If you do that, you’ll be painting for a long long time (Not to mention the houseful of PYO’s you’ll have! π )But that Ki-Rin is gorgeous! π
June 6, 2008 at 1:03 am #709472Okay, I at least want to get to the point when I won’t wince when I see one of my pieces in someone’s pics. π
And yeah, I think my niece and nephew are going to have a whole collection once I fill up my house. π

If I let my son keep the ones he likes…He’d have a room full of them too. And, I’d never get them sent to anyone! πJuly 11, 2008 at 9:04 pm #709474My newest dragon, unfortunately you can’t see the shimmers of green that he has, it’s a cloudy day. π He has interference colours and he has a thin layer of pearl on top.

No flash:
Tried to take a close up to see if I can catch the green:
