I’m so pissed, the past week I had this lump on my leg that just kept getting redder and redder (is that a word?). Since my partner at work had MRSA I was all worried that I might have it too but the red lump went away. Yesterday a new lump shows up just below the old one. The last one I had didn’t hurt at all but this one is killing me. I have to work today so I’m gonna see if one of the er docs will look at it for me. If it is MRSA I’m gonna file a first report of injury and make the fire department pay for my medical bills. That plus I’m gonna make them disinfect the station. I’ll be so pissed since I don’t want to spread it to Alyssa or Danny. I’m gonna go beat up my partner when I got to work in an hour too 👿

July 18, 2008 at 6:00 pm #723635I don’t know what that is but I hope you don’t have it. Didn’t that sound stupid
July 18, 2008 at 6:11 pm #723636Ouch, let us know ok?
And if that is it, give that partner a good whoopin’. 😈
July 18, 2008 at 8:02 pm #723637I hope it’s not MRSA! How long was it between the first bump and this new one? Did it show up right away or wait a week or two?
July 18, 2008 at 8:02 pm #723638I went to work and when I showed my leg to my supervisor they banned me from the station. They called up headquarters and I was told to leave, use MY sick time and go see MY doctor. They said I wasn’t allowed back until I found out what it was. I went to the er and they said they can’t tell what it is for sure but put me on antibiotics anyway. The thing that makes me mad is they pretty much think its MRSA but unless they do a culture (which they can’t because the wound isn’t open) they can’t say for sure. So even if I could say “hey its MRSA” my job says I can’t prove I got it from there so I have to use my own time to cover what I’m missing. I’m so irritated right now.
July 18, 2008 at 8:04 pm #723639It’s good to see your employers care so much about your welfare. 🙄 Why did the doctors give you antibiotics if they’re not sure what it is? Just to be safe?

Something’s wrong there. If there’s reason to suspect MRSA, why wouldn’t they take it seriously. So they have to scratch you a bit and take a culture. Here, they treat it as a reportable disease. So they report it to the CDC. If you are banned from work because of it, get the Workman’s Comp involved. They should be paying all your medical. It’s the law and you have a case since your partner had it.
Last I heard, they weren’t treating MRSA with antibiotics cause by definition, it’s resistant to antibiotics. They treated mine with a cortisone treatment.July 18, 2008 at 8:25 pm #723641I agree with Phoenix…
July 18, 2008 at 8:51 pm #723642Man, that sucks! I really hope it’s not MRSA..and that’s so unfair that your job is making you take your time!
July 18, 2008 at 9:24 pm #723643They said they would have to open up the spot on my leg to be able to get a culture and its not ready to be lanced yet. If its contained in the skin I really don’t want an open oozing sore that can spread the infection. They do treat MRSA with some antibiotics so they said they will just treat me as if I have MRSA to be on the safe side. Its an infection they just don’t know if its MRSA or not. I have my union involved with the whole workmans comp thing but they keep telling me I can’t prove its MRSA so I can’t prove it happened on the job.
