Yes, I get this phishing emails all the time — a lot for Ebay and Paypal but also some pretending to be banks.
February 3, 2007 at 10:30 pm #535387Okay I have an idea of who it was now. It was done from my own computer. No worries about paypal guys. And believe me they are going to be sorry. I’m still battleing it out with the credit card company so I know that maybe they’ll cover some of it but not all of it. I know a few computer geniouses that can find out passwords…. they didn’t hack into paypal…they used my computer, got into my files (I don’t know how I’m not that bright about computers) and got the password somehow. They also got into other passwords, so they intersepted all emails from paypal conserning money being sent. So that’s how it was done. Paypal is secure.
Nobody is ever using my computer again. Every time I let someone use my computer something stupid happens. Normally it’s something like them signing up for things like Bonzi Buddy. Or using my computer to get into a bad sight. This is the first time someone has repaid me by stealing from me. 🙄 If you hear of two murders in Kitchener…. 😈 I’m honestly joking about murder. They’ll wish they were dead though. Can’t trust anybody not even family and very close friends. They could have at least won me a secret keeper instead.
February 3, 2007 at 10:55 pm #535388That sucks! especially if it is someone you know and think you can trust. I hope whatever you don’t get straightened out with your cc co. you take out of their hides!

I know what you mean, I had a problem many years ago with a large loan never getting repaid. Its really sad when people you thought you could trust turn out to be untrustworthy.
I hope you’re able to get your money back.
February 4, 2007 at 4:52 am #535390That’s sick. I hope you get your money back, Romeo. I’m glad you at least know who did it.
February 4, 2007 at 10:07 am #535391That sucks. I would make sure that you have a windows password as well (if you don’t already). And I would defanitaly get a police report or something. How did you find out it was them, if you don’t mind me asking?
February 4, 2007 at 1:29 pm #535392That is awful! How would they know your password? For Paypal, you have to put it in every time you go there. You should be able to trust family and friends… and neighbors… but I guess there are all kinds out there.
February 4, 2007 at 4:17 pm #535393Yeah…like those horrible neighbors that Drag0n used to have…
February 4, 2007 at 4:29 pm #535394That’s what I was thinking too, Mimi. You never can tell about people, I guess.

A lot of people have their computer remember passwords for them. It’s easier, and it’s secure so long as your computer is secure… I have firefox remember all my non-essential passwords, like the one to this forum, but I remember the ones for my bank, paypal, and ebay myself!

Paypal only remembers my user ID. You have a program that keeps all your passwords for those sites? Cuz I didnt think Paypal would allow it for reasons such as this.
February 4, 2007 at 11:43 pm #535397It’s not a program, it just comes with the browser, and paypal can’t stop it. It has nothing to do with paypal, firefox just enters the password for you, instead of you typing it in.
But anybody who takes half a second to think would realize that you shouldn’t tell it to remember passwords for paypal!

I hope you’re not implying that I’m that careless? I’m not stupid. I don’t know how they got the password. Yes I do have to imput my password everytime. But, the people I allowed to use my computer are very smart with computers. They know how to program viruses for example. They won’t do that on my computer. But, obviously I couldn’t trust them as far as I could throw them. I’m upset, please don’t be offended by anything that I say, and I will try to not be offended by what you guys say.February 5, 2007 at 3:56 am #535399I was just wondering if you discussed the theft with your friend. Do you know what you are going to do about it yet? I hope you get your money back.

No, I didn’t mean to imply that you were careless like that! (Obviously you haven’t been.) I was just suggesting that there can be very simple ways for people to “hack” something.
