Jennifer, thanks for the pics. I love derp, so funny, cute and all round cuddly. Do any of them like to sit in your lap?
Oh yes. Both of the Faverolles love to cuddle… those are Derp and Coho. 🙂
Chickadee sits with me sometimes but is too busy thinking everything over to cuddle too much.

My art: featherdust.comNovember 13, 2011 at 8:11 pm #862379One of these days I would like to have ducks and/or chickens. I love raptors of all sorts, owls especially. Though I don’t think I would want a parrot, my mom had one while I was young and the thing was nuts! One minute it would cuddle up to me (she loved my hair for some reason) then she would bite the snot out of my ear O.o Now all parrots make me nervous lol.
November 13, 2011 at 9:15 pm #862380Pretty much all psittacines are like that… They like getting a reaction, so they bite to get that reaction. To them, when you jerk away and cuss, it’s like a reward because *I* think they actually find it amusing on some scale. Theyre sneaky too. I knew an Amazon parrot that would lure people to his cage by talking and gesturing like he wanted to be picked up. Once you got close enough he would bite the crap out of you. And then he would actually LAUGH.
November 13, 2011 at 9:43 pm #862381Well, I have to say that maybe most parrots bite, my younger of the two (male 9 yrs.) Is very friendly. We do not even hesitate to let “friends” handle him. Our older bird (33 yrs. female)…has to know you and is fine. No game playing. We know the boundaries when it comes to handling large birds. Why would anyone go near a large parrot/or any bird, if they didn’t know the proper procedure. My younger parrot is fine with everyone, except that “everyone” is not fine with our parrot. Don’t go near a bird if you are afraid. Or any animal for that matter. Just sticking up for “non-biting” parrots!!!!

LOL, my mom’s bird would do that to my half brother…She’d sneak up behind him, bite the crud outa him (usually drew blood) then run back to my mother and laugh O.O
They don’t scare me, but I am extremely watchful around them! Even small ones hurt like the dickens >.< I am sure there are lots of them out there that don't bite, it doesn't mean I gotta trust them  On a side note, I think they are very pretty! I am just one of those that prefer to admire parrots from a distance 😉
November 14, 2011 at 1:47 am #862397Well even biters can be dealt with easily enough. They think its a game(when they bite just to ‘play’, and not out of fear/aggression), and if you dont react, they get bored and stop trying. I can handle a lot of birds that wont let others handle them, because I dont generally react when I do get bitten(and if I do react, it’s by putting them on the floor, a place no parrot wants to be!). They realize fairly quickly that they cant get away with it. I love my green cheeks but they are a nippy species by default.
November 14, 2011 at 1:50 am #862398Yeah, my Amazon has the laughing thing down and understands when to use it in context. For example, I trip in front on the cage, and she starts cracking up.
There was one incident when I was home alone, taking a shower, and a friend stopped by. He knocked on the door and my Amazon said “Come in!” so he walked in. I come out of the shower with a towel and I’m looking at him like “WTF?” and the Amazon starts laughing her arse off.
‘Tis the nature of the beast, I guess!
November 20, 2011 at 7:51 pm #863214Pictures of the new birdy! She’s doing just fine adjusting to her new surroundings(and I will never figure out why someone would want to give this bird up. She’s AWESOME).

November 20, 2011 at 11:50 pm #863226Your conure is so cute, Wampus!
This is Jinx, my green cheek conure. I got him from Petco, after going in for 2 weeks straight and admiring him. I convinced my husband three years ago that I wanted him for an anniversary present. 🙂 When we went to go pick him up, the sales associate stuck his hand in the cage and tried to grab Jinx, so of course Jinx flipped out and started biting. He flew out of the cage and landed on my shoe. I bent down and offered him a finger to “step up” and he did immediately. The guy was like “HOW DID YOU DO THAT? That bird has the nickname ‘Demon’ around here. He’s evil.” Noooo, you just have no idea what you’re doing. 😛
Here’s my baby. He knows quite a few tricks and I enjoy his company immensely. Sorry the video is sideways. :/
November 21, 2011 at 12:28 am #863229So, we need some advice from all the parrot experts here.
I was thinking of getting a sun conure, but I’m a noob to bird owning…
I don’t really want to buy a “starter” bird as I’d be keeping it for life and really only want one bird. So… What’s the best advice for a newbie looking for a parrot?
(It’s OK to say “DON’T!) LOL.
