Thank you! I just hope he/she last the night so that I can get him/her to the right people!

May 27, 2008 at 3:13 am #707727In petshops they usualy sell Collared Doves or diamond doves
Here is a picture of one of the mourning doves at my place:
From what I can see it looks like a mourning dove…I agree with Jen on that one. Don’t foget that once they molt they change so the one pictured at my place is an adult.
He is probable in shock right now but if he stays at the bottom of the cage in the corner like that tomorrow morning then there is a big change that he might be sick. Poor guy I hope he pulls through.May 27, 2008 at 3:17 am #707728Do mourning doves have back “collars” on their necks too? I know I have seen some of those around here too. 🙂
May 27, 2008 at 3:23 am #707729Do you mean the little black stripe on the side of the neck like this one pictured? That is a mourning dove. It’s not really a collar
May 27, 2008 at 3:55 am #707730Thanks for the info.
I don’t know if he’ll be okay… He is just sleeping and not moving much… I don’t know a lot about birds so I am at a loss… 🙁

Depending on the time it is where you are at the moment if evening that is normal. That is why I said you should see by morning. If he stays at the bottom of the cage and does really move much he is sick or still in shock. Could be afraid too if he knows you are near. Try to observe him without being to evident and close to him. It is better if he does not know you are there. 😉
Good luck and keep us posted.May 27, 2008 at 4:34 am #707732starbreeze wrote:I wonder why they were pecking it. 😕
My mother has ring-necks. The male “father” dove will sometimes peck the younger male baby doves. Sometimes they even rip the feathers right off of them! 😕
She has learned to keep them seperated. 😀
If you cannot get him to a sancuary, you can usually purchase some kind of wild dove food or flax seed also works well.
The only thing is making sure he is eating. Birds honestly don’t live long if they aren’t, and will lose precious weight. 🙁
My mother has over 20 birds currently. 5 doves, 2 Green Cheeked Conures (Which I may get one, dunno yet.), 10 cockatiels, 2 love birds, 2 parakeets, a Quaker parakeet, and an African Timney Grey. The Grey loves to hang upside down and be spoiled rotton. He even does things a 2 year old child will do. 🙄 And he argues with my mother, but only cuz she lets him. 😆 It is really quite the sight to see my mother arguing with a bird. 😯May 27, 2008 at 4:38 am #707733Serenity wrote:2Huberts wrote:do you have any polysporin? not neosporin that’s toxic to birds. No, I don’t. 🙁
Right now its “resting”… hasn’t moved a lot since putting it in the cage. I just can’t wait until tomorrow so that I can hopefully find this little fellow some help! And the proper help. 😉 *which means more than me!*
PetSmart here in town sells doves as pets… can’t remember what kind but I have seen them before in there.
Most likely the ring necked doves. They have a ring that goes around the back of the neck from one side to the other. My mom’s are the pied version. Beige and white.
May 27, 2008 at 5:22 am #707734I have water, wild bird food, and this millet spray stuff in the cage with him/her. I know the doves like the bird food since when I put it in the back yard they are all over it. It is in a bird cage with a towel over half of it for now.
Guess I shall see how it is doing in the morning.
May 27, 2008 at 5:25 am #707735Thank you for saving him/her. The poor thing.
May 27, 2008 at 1:02 pm #707736Well poooo. I have such bad luck with wild baby animals. 🙁 It didn’t make it. More than likely died from shock. 😥
I just couldn’t watch the poor little fellow get pecked to death by that other dove. Everytime I would step outside to check on my girls I would see this little bird trying its best to get away from its attacker. And this was going on since Sunday. I tried catching it then but a BIG storm blew in with a LOT of wind and such, after it was over I didn’t see the little dove. Then yesterday the neighborhood kids started trying to catch it. So I steped in to save it from that older dove and the kids. 🙁
Years ago my cat that I had then brought me a baby cotton tail rabbit, it was soooo cute and small. My dads wife knew what to do and it also still died from shock. 🙁 *Silly part about that story is that my boyfriend at the time got me a stuffed animal of “Thumper”, its like my cat Tripper was trying to out do my boyfriend… because the little rabbit was not hurt by my cat.*
May 27, 2008 at 3:45 pm #707737I’m sorry he didn’t make it but you gave him a chance. And he didn’t die while being attacked but safe and warm. *hugs*
May 27, 2008 at 4:21 pm #707738Awww. Thats too bad. You tried though. Wild birds are really hard to heal.
