Whatever ends up happening, make sure you keep us posted. Good luck!
September 27, 2007 at 11:56 am #620722Thanks girl!! I feel better… and the Birman actually did cheer me up, so I was wrong there. 😆 I am now thinking about whether or not I can find a job that pays about $35,000 a year. I will have a few months to search… it cant be that hard, can it?
September 27, 2007 at 2:38 pm #620723That’s not too bad, what sort of technical skills will you be offering to your new employer? Are there certain types of places you’re specifically wanting to try? Any careers you wish you had tried? THis could be something you could look at as a fresh start to possibly try out something you never got around to before. 🙂

That’s the way to think of it, purplecat! “When one door closes, another might be about to pop open and smack ya in the kisser,” as they say 😆 Ski, you might just find another job you love that offers good pay and more time with your son 🙂
September 27, 2007 at 4:48 pm #620725Life has a habit of smacking you around at the least expected times…it’s hard to always keep your chin up but I’m sure that this will turn out good in the end. 🙂
September 27, 2007 at 6:35 pm #620726Honestly, what I want to do has nothing to do with what I have been doing. I have been doing rotary wing mechanics and paperwork, and I want to be a dog catcher or work at an animal shelter. I doubt that pays well at all. Sometimes I feel like I should just try to take the pay cut and see if I am happy with what I am doing.

Then go for it! It’s better to be paid less to do something you love.
Money should not be the driver into taking a job, but the job itself. If it pays good, even better.

September 28, 2007 at 2:00 am #620729Definitely something to be considered! 🙂
September 28, 2007 at 4:53 am #620730Whatever your decisions, Im sure they will be well thought out from all angles and in the end, Im sure that you will find you made the right leap of faith. One door may be closing and if youre still facing it, you can panic when all you have to do is turn around and see the open window you can climb through.
*warm fuzzies and tons-o-support*
XOXOSeptember 28, 2007 at 6:48 pm #620731I am sorry to hear all that it sounds like you are in a very tough situation. I hope you take the time to really think things thru before doing anything.
September 29, 2007 at 12:00 am #620732Vetrinary assistant maybe? You’d get to be around dogs and other animals, plus it’d be better pay. And I think with being an assistant you might find a position where they’ll do on-site training. 🙂

And, believe it or not, if you choose this and excel in it, you may have a doctor take a real shine to you and under his wing & without technical schooling, you could be promoted to a technician which is even better pay.
However, let me say this as someone who has worked for a vet- it is very hard work for the heart strings. Youll see and have to deal with things that can be very unpleasant, have bad outcomes and meet ppl you just want to slap silly because of their lousy ownership skills and lack of morals or conscience. Believe me, I loved being a part of the vet world, helping pregnant mums bring their babies into the world; helping to save animals lives on a daily basis, but the other stuff was too hard for me to take and my heart gave out and I had to go in a different direction. Just a thought to keep in mind.
But as Ive said, whatever decisions you make and roads you travel, Im sure youll do what is best and it will work out just fine. You have loads of support here in forum friends, and that has to count for a little something.
Still sending warm fuzzies and positive thoughts for success and stress relief. xoxoxoxo
September 29, 2007 at 10:10 am #620734A vet assistant or vet tech would be right up my alley. I would def check that out if I chose to get out. OJT is a must, though I do know alot about dogs… being one of those familes who never took care of them but always managed to pick them up so I could “rescue” them only to let them go later cuz we couldnt afford to feed them. I am glad I grew up and learned whats right.
September 29, 2007 at 4:04 pm #620735I agree with PT, it’s hard on the heart strings. I had a college class that allowed you to volunteer in a job position to learn more about the job. I chose vet tech. Most of what I encountered was the routine spaying, tail docking, ear trimming, puppies sick with Parvo, etc. I observed one operation by the vet where he trimmed a Doberman puppy’s ears so they would stand up. I had to leave the room.
If you like working with animals, there’s other options. I realize your current job takes a lot of your time now, but if it’s something you might want to get into later, maybe you could start some early studying so you could be more specialized when you do decide to leave the service.
