Ok, this is kinda lame since its just a black uni, but I was proud of the restoration job and wanted to share. The horn is just set in there till I get a new one. 🙂 Anyone can feel free to post theirs here, if they like.

June 22, 2007 at 5:16 pm #591561She looks new again! Good job 😀
June 22, 2007 at 5:17 pm #591562I have a soft spot for these mom unis. Their eyes look so sad. I had to keep the first mom I got because she looked so betrayed whenever I even thought about selling her 🙄 The unis are just so cool
June 22, 2007 at 5:22 pm #591563I really, really want a black uni.
June 22, 2007 at 6:10 pm #591564The restoration job looks great, Skigod. And I like your photos, they make the uni look lovely. And you are right, she does look sad! 🙁
I might have my own before and after pictures around here somewhere. I’ll have to dig them up to post.

June 23, 2007 at 5:20 am #591568Nice job, Ski. That uni looked even sadder than usual without her horn.
June 23, 2007 at 7:58 am #591569Thanks guys! I would love to see your restorations, Lokie! 🙂
June 23, 2007 at 8:07 pm #591570Well, the MIB male Ki-Rin I received didn’t have the best paint/antiquing job so I decided to try to fix him to my liking. I guess it doesn’t make him “mint” anymore, but since I have no intention of ever selling him, I did it for me. Here is a “before” picture of one side of his face. The antiquing is similar on the other side of his face as well.
As you can see, the production antiquing is really dark and not quite wiped off.
An in progress picture.
And a semi-“after” picture. Not quite done yet since I want to get some of the pearl paint to touch up around his eyes. But that might be awhile since I don’t know what color it is and Melody is on vacation so I don’t want to bug her asking. I’ll post a new picture once I fix up the eyes. So, for those wondering about the boring process, to fix, I used alcohol and q-tips to get all the gloss off that area of his face. I mixed my own browns (4 shades) and airbrushed her face. Then I airbrushed a hint of yellow behind his eyes and on the top of his muzzle. I then put a layer of dark brown glaze over the entire area. The technique I used for antiquing was mixing the same dark brown color used in the glaze with retarder- I applied the retarder/paint mix with a brush and then immediately used my finger to wipe the excess off. I then added another layer of glaze to certain areas that I wanted darken a bit more. I used a brush on gloss sealer to finish it off (except near the eye area, which won’t be sealed until it is touched up). The End 😛 Sort of, LOL, just noticed something that I supposedly “fixed” that still irks me 😳 Need to spend some more time fixing *shuffles off to the painting table*
