how do you know it’s a female? 😀 we have a hummingbird feeder in the courtyard and they fly right past your head and sit on the feeder to get the nectar, they’re so cute.
The male has a ruby throat like the one pictured at the top of this page. It looks black since the sun was not hitting it.:D

May 30, 2008 at 12:16 pm #689703Lovely!
I like the first pic of the female; she looks like she’s saying: “What? Where? Huh?”
As usual, beautiful pictures!

I didn’t think about that! that’s funny!
Thanks for the complement.
🙄 I think this and the caterday post are becoming therapy for me. One I have people actually say nice things to me and the other makes me laugh…I need more of those. 😉May 30, 2008 at 7:30 pm #689705Hugs!
Methinks you should plan a trip to Toronto this summer… histoire de te changer les idées

Here is my “trick”.
Well not a trick really but the way I do it.
We all know that if birds are used to see you around they eventualy trust you a little more.
I stand or sit about 6 feet away from the feeders and get camera ready. I don’t move during that time not even to swap at mosquitoes. When I hear the hummingbird fly by, I put the camera on and start to focus on the feeder or where I know he or she always perches itself before getting near the feeder. Once in view voila! beautiful picture….well not all the time but in 20 there is bond to be a good one. 🙄 😆
It just takes lots of patience! 😀June 22, 2008 at 3:15 pm #689710June 22, 2008 at 6:00 pm #689711Beautiful pics! 😀 I especially like the orange flower opening up. Is that some sort of daisy?
June 22, 2008 at 6:05 pm #689712Don’t get inbetween that humming bird and its food… lol
I did once to make the feeder higher so that my cat wouldn’t get any dumb ideas and that little male humming bird actually flew and hovered inbetween me and the feeder… like 6 inches away from my nose… lol it was kinda cute. That was in Gitmo bay Cuba when the first husband was in the Navy the first time around.
