So Saturday morning I wake up with a lot of pain in my lower back. It continues through the weekend. Heat patches, icy hot and OTC pain relievers don’t seem to put a dent in it-just make it angry. So Monday morning I wake up with a 99.9 degree fever. I figure I’ll take some Ibuprophen for it and go to work. I feel okay, until about midway through the day, my fever shoots up to 103-104…which is both normal for me, an the temperature outside (Houston’s home but I hate the summers). I’ve been having re-occuring lower back pain in the same spot off and on since October…here it is June.
A guy I work with suggested it might be kidney problems. I went to the chiropractor that evening-I’ve got scoliosis-a slightly curved spine. Usually I feel like I’m on a cloud afterwards-except this time. Tuesday I was still runninig a fever that has been yo-yo-ing since Monday, and I feel flu-ish…and my lower back pain seems to be spreading. I felt something like death. I couldn’t keep anything down, not tiny sips of gatorade or water. 2 painful shots in said kidney area later, they confirmed what I figured I had.
My dad just recently got out of the hospital with a collapsed lung (more proof smoking is bad….he’s been doing it for probably 40 years) and my poor mother keeps joking to her sisters on the phone that she’s scheduled for a nervous break down.
It feels like someone has blown up 2 balloons and stuffed them on top of my hips, and then tied a tight rope around my midsection, so almost no position is comfortable for sleeping. I’ve had 3 shots that feel like bruises on my tail-bone area, and that isn’t much condusive to sleeping either. On the bright side, I have been able to catch up with you kind and amazing people, as well as other areas of internet interest.
This morning, about 11am, I’m sitting at the kitchen table trying to sleep (couldn’t find a comfortable position on the couch, so I figured-why not?) and the staffing agency calls me.
I had been working Temp. at a place called West End Lumber, a subsidary of Beacon International, sister company to Action Roofing, Lafayette Wood Works as well as others, for the last 6-going on 7 months. Everyone there liked me, and I knew almost everyone.
On a side story, in the last week, I had taken all the money in my savings account-$600 and decided to be “responsible” and pay down my credit card. (and-reduce the temptation to spend it on shiny ebay Windstones mwahahah!) I thought, if I had one less bill every month, I’d save on the interest, could save or spend that much more money, it would improve my credit, and I’d be at a small and resonable amount of debt that I could pay off in a few months-Hooray! ……
So then I get this get this call-they tell me I’ve done a really great job ^_^….but they’re out of work for me to do at West End, and that they no longer need me.
So here I am, at home, in pain, sick, and now unemployed. I guess the good (or bad?) thing is that I got a few Windstones recently, so at least I’ll have something to look forward to. I should have coming a Sunrise lap dragon, Amethyst curlie, and a pair of small black flap cats.
On the other hand, I was wanting to try bartending and go back to school-so I can get a job I like..or even love, and stick with it a lot longer than 6 months 😛 So as soon as I can get well, maybe something good will come of this, eh?

Sun Dragon Koi #3June 25, 2009 at 7:52 pm #771633I’m sorry about your health, Wolfen. It will be good for right now for you to take it easy and meld with the computer. I’m sorry about your father too; how can they treat a collapsed lung? And what did cause the pain in your back? Good luck going back to school; what do you want to study? You will be in my prayers tonight.

Thanks guys. In a strange way, its easier to talk to you guys than maybe some of my “real life” friends. A kidney infection has been causing my back pain. So both of my kidneys are swollen and inflamed. :- According to the nurse, women are just more prone to them than men…but I can’t imagine how this could happen-this badly. I mean, I know a few causes of Urinary tract infections (UTI’s) and I’ve taken precautions to avoid this kind of thing. So IDK what caused the kidney problem.
I have quite a few years worth of college credits under my belt already-I just never was too interested in school. I was studying graphic design. I used to be pretty good at it and very confident about my abities. I’ve been playing around in design software for almost 8 years; but its the kind of thing, like so many, that once you’re out of the loop, you have to work at getting back in and getting back IN the loop. So I’ve got some studdying to do to see whats “in” now in the graphic world.
As for my dad-he needed some rest. He’s a work-a-holic. So they put him on oxygen, put in a chest tube, an IV and told him to sleep and not think about work. They made sure no fluids were draining, and let the hole heal. He’s got about 3 different kinds of inhalers and 2 different medications though. His voice is a little different, but I can tell he’s feeling better on a day to day basis.
June 25, 2009 at 9:14 pm #771636Goog to know that at least you now know what yours is and how to battle it
I’m sorry to hear about your dad it’s strange how we end up taking care of our parents later in lifeJune 25, 2009 at 10:23 pm #771637Good to know you found the cause, but a kidney infection is not fun!! I had one once, and it was the worst pain I had ever experienced…. worse than my broken arm. 😮 Hope you start to feel better soon and things turn around for you! HUGS! Good luck in your design endevors! 🙂
June 26, 2009 at 1:23 am #771638Kidney infections are not fun. I’ve had one once, bad enough that my doctor put me on an IV at his office. It was that or go to the hospital. Like others said it was really painfull. And I found out the hard way that you DO NOT want to put topical pain reliever on the area that hurts either. I was in tears it hurt so bad. I couldn’t get Russ to wash it off fast enough.
I hope it clears up quickly for you Wolfen. Feel better soon.
June 26, 2009 at 1:30 am #771639Well, at least you know the cause… unknown pain is hardly treatable.
Rest up, feel better, and hopefully something will turn up on the job front! ((HUGS))
June 26, 2009 at 1:42 am #771640I’m sorry to hear you’re going through so much pain! I hope you feel better really soon and good luck with your pursuit in Graphic Design :).

Yikes! An IV right in his office? I had an IV once-when I had a wisdom tooth and molar taken out. I was so scared, but I was concious only about 5 seconds after I felt the prick of the needle. I woke up-all done! THAT was the best! lol Go to sleep, wake up, problem’s fixed. If only all of life’s big problems could be solved that way.
So nothing like Icy Hot, huh? I’ve been trying hot baths and heated socks filled with rice and thermocare patches, but all that stuff seems to do is-indeed, make it angry. I’m so sorry Copper!

I wouldn’t do any of that stuff. It’s just bringing more heat to an already inflamed area. Have you tried cold packs? I honestly don’t remember if I tried that.
