I’m generally a very private person, but I’m just so stressed out right now. I just found out last evening that my Dad was admitted to the hospital. He is going to have open heart surgery Friday morining, and I’m so worried he’s not going to make it. He initionally went to the hospital for a follow-up check-up on his heart. He was diagnoised with having sever heart issues in prior visits – enough to be prescribed nitro pills. Well, when the doctors were assessing the condition of his heart during his last exam, the doctor’s would’nt allow him to leave. Apparently he had a mild attack durring the stress test they do to assess the condition of his heart. He’s fine now – he has’nt had a full-blown heart-attack, but the doctors say his heart is very damaged due to sever blockages.
That’s not the end of it. My parents live out in the middle of nowhere. My Mother can’t drive – never learned to – and they have several animals to take care of. Two horses and dozens of fowl. I have no idea how that’s going to play out. I live over 3 hours away, and I have a job – so I’m stressing about how my mother is going to manage while my Dad is at the hospital – not to mention how she’ll manage when he returns from the hospital. He won’t be able to do any kind of physical labor for a couple of months – definetly not shoveling out stables and moving bales of hay. I have a sister, but it’s basically the same deal with her as it is with me – except she has two little kids!
Well – I’m sorry to download like this, but I really don’t have anybody else to talk to, and I just needed to spout for a while. I just feel so worn out.August 12, 2009 at 11:20 pm #499013August 12, 2009 at 11:56 pm #779744I’m so sorry! That is a very stressful and emotional situation. I do hope your dad has an optimal recovery. Does your mom have any neighbors or friends a little closer? Maybe if someone could come help her twice a week that would be all she needs to help manage. With just two horses, would she need to be moving lots of hay around all the time? Younger kids might be happy to help for cheap or free, just for the opportunity to come see the animals.
Have you talked to your parents about how the next two months will go? Maybe you can get a game plan of what they’ll need help with, and find it’s not as much as you thought they would need. Take a deep breath, you’re overwhelmed right now, but it’s ok. You’ll be able to pick up your chin and see what needs to be done. Maybe you and your sister could each take a weekend out of the month to go see your parents too. Then they’d have one of their children over every other week at least.
Big big hugs!!

August 13, 2009 at 12:26 am #779747I’m so sorry to hear about your dad! I know how stressful it is to have a loved one in the hospital, facing surgery and not really knowing what the outcome will be. Sending positive calming thoughts your way that all will work out fine. Chrisherself’s advice looks good–need to discuss with your mom what needs to be done. [Hugs] Keep us informed on how things are going! That’s what we’re here for. 🙂
August 13, 2009 at 12:37 am #779748I hope your dad’s surgery goes well and he recovers swiftly. And that some good friends/neighbors step up to help your mom out. It’s rough to be far away and tied to a job when things like that happen. 🙁
August 13, 2009 at 12:40 am #779749I’ll be praying for your dad Friday.
Do they belong to a church group that could help? Hiring someone for a few months is a great idea as well. I hope you can find some help for them. *hugs*
August 13, 2009 at 12:42 am #779750I hope the surgery goes well. My mother-in-law had a triple bypass and everything went well. Big hugs and positive thoughts!

If they do not have a Church that they attend regularly there are still many that will offer assistance where and when it’s needed. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to call and ask. They might also be able to hook them up with someone cheap and reliable to drive your Mom around and/or help with chores.August 13, 2009 at 9:23 pm #779756Many hugs! I think the other advice here is worth following, things can seem very overwhelming until you write it down… and then once that’s done, you can see about getting help of some kind.
