December 30, 2007 at 10:43 am #648193Well vacation was wonderful and I just got back home. Any links of cool stuff I missed would be appreciated! 😀 I landed in Virginia and spent two days there with Paul. The first one, he had to work so I shopped. I love malls. We drove to Ohio, a 10 hr drive, and stayed with his mother and father till Christmas Eve. From there we drove behind them to visit his fathers side of the family in Louisville Kentucky. I met an Aunt, an Uncle, a Grandma, and a couple cousins. All very nice and they taught me how to play Guitar Hero. We had something called “Triangle” which is apparently Kentuckys best kept meat secret. Its a seasoned cut of meat that was out of this world. The next day we visited his mothers side of the family and I met another Aunt and Uncle, Grandma, Grandpa, and more cousins. All very nice though very old school. Only one uncomfortable moment but I think I hid it well. I ate too much, learned how to play both Rook and Tripoli, and had a wonderful time. I even visited the cousin the next day to meet her 190lb Mastif. He was massive. It was ridiculous how big this dog was. 🙄 😆 We drove back and had a few more days with the family. I met a few of Pauls friends and we went shooting and shopping and had a blast. I saw three movies: Golden Compass, I am Legend, and Walk Hard. They were all good, though I am Legend was scarier than I anticipated. Pauls Uncle said Golden COmpass was about killing God, though I didnt see that during the movie. Anyone else hear that? My last night, Paul took me to dinner and proposed. It was very sweet and of course I said yes. He surprised me because he wants to get married in Feb or March. I am game. I have missed you guys. I hope all your holidays went well.
December 30, 2007 at 2:46 pm #648194well let me be the first to say CONGRATS!! I wish you the best of luck. Where are you going to get married?
December 30, 2007 at 3:05 pm #648195I am so very VERY happy for you!!!! This is such fantastic news!!!! awww….I’m getting all teary eyed!!! 😀
December 30, 2007 at 3:11 pm #648196Congrats on the engagement! That’s very exciting. Where are you going to live?
And, yes, the His Dark Materials Trilogy (of which Golden Compass is the first book) ends with a battle in Heaven and the death of God. However, the setting of this book is a fictional fantasy world, and a very corrupt governmental church-run system. It is run by an alien who takes the place of the people’s God, but isn’t really God. This plot line is not developed in the first book. It’s more about the Gobblers.
There have been people complaining about this series as being anti-religious. But I think that if they can see their religious organization in this fictional corrupt church, they should take another look at their religious organization.
December 30, 2007 at 3:25 pm #648197CoNGRATS!!!!! That’s awesome! 😀 😀 😀
December 30, 2007 at 3:53 pm #648198Thanks Emerald. That makes more sense. I have not read the books. DM, we will probably be married wherever he is. We may also meet back in Ohio or Kentucky so his family can attend. It will be small, regardless, but I am so looking forward to it. Even if its just a small ceremony in a court house.
Emerald, I think I will still be going to Hawaii and he will be going to Alabama. I think we will be separated for a while and then he will probably end up in Hawaii with me. I have to talk to my branch manager, but I dont really see any other way to go about it. There is no place for me in Alabama.
Its gonna suck to be separated, but it will be so much nicer knowing he is mine. 😀
December 30, 2007 at 4:04 pm #648199Congratulations!
And it sounds like you had a great time on your holiday. Meeting “the family” for the first time is never an easy thing.
