This afternoon, we’re leaving for the Mayan Riviera, returning next Friday. So if you don’t hear from me, no worries, you will next Saturday (while I may not be able to update the feedback lists daily, I do acknowledge receipt of any PMs/message right away).
I’m really hoping my young poads will come knocking before we leave – in which case, I hope to have time to take pics and post about it!
I’m so excited, I woke up before my alarm this morning!!!
🙂

We came home at 5am this morning. I still have a bit of the “moving with the boat” thing… we were at sea basically most of the day Thursday, and combined with fatigue, it has pretty interesting effects. :tired:
We had overcast weather with lots of winds, which allowed for a lot of activities without dying of heat. It also allowed for a very beautiful sunburn when we were on the water in the mangroves on Tuesday. I swear, I glowed in the dark.
With the high winds, the harbor was closed in Playa del Carmen, so we couldn’t dive – we ended up going to Cozumel instead, where we did a deep dive on the side of the Santa Rosa reef – OMG, the beauty!!! And a shallow dive, where we basically swam around for an hour. We got my daughter certified as a scuba diver (we’re open water certified), so now, she can come with instead of moping by herself in the hotel room. And of course, I think we lost the underwater camera. Dean took pics of the shallow dive, but he couldn’t take it past 60 feet, so the deep dive is in our personal memory banks.
I’ll try to post pics today or tomorrow.

90 feet, so deeper than I had ever gone. To be honest, I was a bit nervous about it, but I never really noticed. All I had to do was equalize a bit more often. The visibility was awesome! We saw huge fish, blinking at us, obviously wondering what the heck we were, these “tree” coral, in a light purple… We need a camera that goes deeper than 60 feet!

I don’t have that many because we didn’t take the camera when we went to Xplor (zip lining, underground river and stuff) and the underwater camera was stolen, so all the pics taken during the shallow dive are lost.
First, the resort. I cannot tell you how gorgeous it was – it was huge surface-wise, because of all the gardens. We just walked aimlessly around, looking at the bird and lizards.
And yes, it had its own Mayan ruins
One of the pools
The beach
The hotel proper
They also had quite a few animals (aside from the wild birds), including a turtle escape artist!
We went to 2 different parks, one being very “tame”, Xcaret…
with tons of wildlife, there by design or not.
Turtles, small and big (they raise them)
Bird
An awesome church
Puma & jaguar
Stingrays & manatee (among others)
A huge butterfly pavillion
And to Sian Ka’an ecological park
Where a wild turtle came to see us and a group of six wild dolphins put on a show.
Then we went into the mangrove (too much wind to snorkel on the reef that day – phooey).
And here we are!
So we had a great time and we plan to go back – so much to see!
