I have to go with Barrdwing on this one. I have an odd name and was picked on all through grade school. To this day, most people pronounce it wrong. I would never hurt my Mom by having it legally changed (it was her Mom’s name), but jeeze, I am sick to death of it! I think “different” is ok, but try to stay away from “waaay different”.

I like your name, lamorte. It reminds me of Greek mythology.

October 13, 2007 at 4:29 am #624531How about Janis Noelle? That’s pretty irish
October 14, 2007 at 7:59 pm #624532How about Kassie or Kacee?
October 15, 2007 at 8:14 pm #624533I am happy that your husband is letting you choose the name (mostly)! My husband is hell bent on naming the baby himself with maybe a little flexability in there for my input. He wants to have the baby’s name start with a “K” because my name is Katie, his KC, and our two dogs are named Karly and Keely. Personally, I want to stay away from that!
One name that is listed as a favorite is Alyssa. I like that name a lot! I would choose that if we are having a girl except for the part that KC’s first love was named Alyssa! But I love that name! You have my vote on that one!
October 15, 2007 at 8:32 pm #624534doh’ That’s not good. Have you decided on names yet?
October 15, 2007 at 8:37 pm #624535My husband knows better then to tell me I can’t do something (especially come up with the babies name). Its a joint venture to create a child so its a joint venture to name them as well. I still haven’t decided on a name yet. Hubby likes Janis Alyssa but I’m sure I won’t be able to make my mind up any time soon. We have been looking for cribs and its driving me nuts. All the ones at the store (in my price range) are pieces of crap. Hubby wants one that converts to a bed and I can’t stand the plastic ones you find at most stores. So far the only cribs I’ve found that I like are at the babies r us but they are over $400 😯 My mom had a fit when I told her what cribs we were looking at and told me to get a used one off of craigslist. I’m glad I don’t listen to most of what she says.

Are you having a baby shower? I know you don’t want to use that as a cash grab but perhaps your guests wouldn’t mind pitching a bit towards the crib. There are also a couple of websites that have nice cribs on sale: I’m thinking first of Overstock.com…
October 15, 2007 at 10:10 pm #624537I guess I’m having a baby shower. My husband said that I was supposed to have one but him going in the hospital screwed it all up. He has been talking to my mom and his mom trying to get them to have one big baby shower so we don’t have to run back and forth but they hate each other so I don’t think it will happen. My husband is alittle mad about that but he won’t tell me anything else since he says I’m not supposed to know about it.
October 15, 2007 at 10:46 pm #624538I don’t know, Purpledoggy. We got Karli’s crib for $30 at a yard sale, and yes it needed some work. We sanded it down and repainted it, and Karli uses it now. I even applied butterfly decals and painted in vines and flowers. Looks really nice. If you’d like, I can take pics.
Some of those older cribs out there are much nicer and sturdier than the stuff they sell at stores now. So since you’ve got a little time left, you may want to reconsider a used crib, perhaps your Dad could refurbish it for you? Just a thought.
Also, taking about cribs, would you be interested in a chicken themed crib set in yellows and oranges? I got it from my mother in law for our son, I told her we were doing the baby’s room in greens and horses, and please nothing yellow. Nope, didn’t listen to a thing I said, but oh well.
I have the whole thing, ruffle, bumper pad, and quilt. Let me know and I will dig them out of storage, wash them to get the dust out and send them your way.

October 16, 2007 at 3:25 am #624539I would consider used things, too. Anything that you can clean up, disinfect, wash, etc. Babies grow so darned fast….they don’t use anything for too long. You have to buy what makes you happy, but it’s something to think about.
October 16, 2007 at 9:13 pm #624540I hope you do have a baby shower! I know you’ll have some fun!
