Is anyone else having trouble getting to Astral Castle’s website? I’ve tried several times today, but it won’t come up. Dave, are you out there? 😕
June 29, 2009 at 2:25 am #498589June 29, 2009 at 3:01 am #772107I’ve had problems reaching the site since late Friday night.
June 29, 2009 at 9:24 am #772108I haven’t been able to access his website since Friday, I keep getting an error page.
June 29, 2009 at 12:46 pm #772109I have had no trouble at all. I have been off and on it all weekend.
June 29, 2009 at 12:58 pm #772110I can’t get to his store. If I do a google search for “Astral Castle”, I can access the site from ccgs dot com. From there, I can use the link to the encyclopedia, but I can’t get to the catalog. Not from the links, nor from the astralcastle windstone index and merchant web addresses I have bookmarked. I get URL not found. 😕
June 29, 2009 at 5:20 pm #772111Mine keeps telling me it’s forbidden. I don’t know what’s happening either; I’ve accessed his website with no problems before.
June 29, 2009 at 5:23 pm #772112It’s not just the Windstone sales catalog that’s down, but the pocket dragon, maya hill and gary kinsella ones are down as well.

This past week has been one of those weeks.
The people who host our website “upgraded” us by, I think, selling off a division of themselves to another company. Anyway, whatever, they moved our site, CCGS.COM, to a new server. But they didn’t update the pointers and everything for ASTRALCASTLE.COM
This is where we find out “What’s in a name?”
For a week there, anyone going to ccgs.com found us on the new server; anyone going to astralcastle.com found us on the old server. The problem is that links within our catalog are hard coded to astralcastle.com, so even if you went in on the new server, you’d soon find yourself on the old server, which presumably wiould be getting its plug pulled at any moment.
After a week of putting in trouble tickets and calling up and doing the on-line help chat thing, I finally got someone to update the Domain Name System entry so that typing astralcastle.com or ccgs.com in your browser took you to the same place.
And that’s when things seriously went bad, on Friday evening.
Although the two names do now go to the same place, for some reason the site is rejecting requests addressed to “astralcastle.com”. You just get a FORBIDDEN or a NOT FOUND response.
The latest update is that I’ve now been told this isn’t a DNS problem, it’s a billing problem. I need a “Domain Pointing Package” added. Or something. As if all this time they’ve been doing this job for free at only double the cost of a regular package.
So that’s where we are. Waiting to hear back from the billing department.
For now, you can get to our Windstone Encyclopedia by clicking on your normal link, and if it comes up “astralcastle.com” change that in your browser to “ccgs.com”. Or just go here: http://ccgs.com/windstone/wsframe.htm
The problem is that you can’t actually order anything or look within our catalog because none of the internal links work, and you can’t fake it because then the cookies get confused.
Confused cookies. Mmmmmmm.
I’ll post an update if things change.

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.June 29, 2009 at 7:39 pm #772116This is the fun thing about dealing with a large company as opposed to a small company.
We were told months ago that our site was to be “upgraded” to a new server. Each time the Friday evening deadline came and went, but nothing happened.
Whenever I contacted them to ask anything, I got the reply that my site seemed to have the wrong “default zone file settings” and would I please fix this. Having no idea what they were talking about, and since the site was working just fine, I usually just ignored this. On the one occasion that I didn’t ignore it and instead asked how I should go about changing the zone files as per instruction, I got the reply: “We have investigated your request and we would like to ask you not to change your zone file as it can down your domain workability.”
So a week ago last Friday they finally moved ccgs.com, but not astralcastle.com. So I had to contact them to ask what was going on. I was told I had the wrong DNS entry, and changing this was not something they could do. I’d have to contact whoever sold me the domain name. I checked into that and it just didn’t seem that was the answer: according to them, BOTH sites were still on the old server. So I went back to the people who are hosting our site.
It took me an entire week of being told “We can’t help you in this department, try this other department” before I was told maybe I needed to contact their DNS department. I did this and they changed the DNS entry within minutes.
But that’s when things went wrong. Now, because the DNS entry was correct, it was no-longer the DNS department’s problem. They took a wild guess that maybe I should contact Billing. So I go there. But they can’t help me because I need the “Domain Registration Department”. This is so logical that I feel I ought to have guessed that days ago. If support@ is one department, and DNS@ is another department, and billing@ is another, how come I didn’t manage to guess that “domains@” was the place I needed to go. Actually I’m betting this is still NOT the place I need to go. I think probably where I need to go is an entirely different and unrelated hosting company.
The amusing thing is that I get the odd feeling that all of these various departments are in the same room, and are probably the same three people going by 18 different assumed names. But I’m probably entirely wrong about that. But I bet that’s how it was in the old days, when the company was small. Back then, if they liked you, they’d allow that one “department” could communicate directly with another to fix a problem for a customer. I figure those days are long gone.

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.June 30, 2009 at 2:32 pm #772119Poor Dave! You should call my husband… He deals with this stuff all the time and can do phone support.
In fact, he’s dealing with an issue almost like yours. His client in Hawaii was “helping” and registered their new domain name without asking Mike first… But their website is hosted somewhere else so he’s got to deal with a lot of changes and magic stuff that I have no clue about!
I think that is where people get the run around is when the tech support starts throwing technical terms around when they are really stalling.Mike loves to mess with them. 😀
But if you’d like to chat with him, I’m sure he’d be happy to offer advice. -
