Hai guys!
As you may have noticed I am pretty terrible when it comes to keeping up with forums. I have venues across so many different niches on the internet that regular forum chatting just can’t fit into even my weekly schedule.
One thing on my goal list though is to keep up a nature/fantasy/artistic journey blog with better personal access to you guys and fantasy fans alike because I feel that followers would enjoy it along with PYO painters wanting any edge to their workflow and it helps me with support and incentive to create that fantasy portfolio that’s been on the back burner for years now. The trouble is that I want to make sure it’s a blog site used by the most users from this site as PYO’s will be the core of the blog. I have tried every one on the poll list over time, but none of them have really took root, so I want to restart the smart way this time and with sunnier weather coming about means it’s Windstone season again!
Social interaction is the key aspect I’m looking for of a blog platform. If you have questions about any aspect of my arting feel free to ask as fuel to help get my blog started!
Also, with this poll, it might help other artists on this forum to come together on the same platform and create an awesome net!
For some reason if the Poll isn’t working for you (it’s glitching on me too) the options are:
Live Journal
Deviantart
Facebook
Blogger / Blogspot
Tumblr
or OtherYou can comment your choice.
March 28, 2013 at 3:54 pm #895308The most popular social blogging site at the moment seems to be tumblr. I use it for artwork and it’s easy to interact with comments, questions, “reblogging”, asks, and users can even submit things to your blog if you allow that option. I don’t know how many other forum members use it though! A facebook page centered around your artwork might be an easier way to go. (The poll you have up isn’t working for me)

It’s really too bad because I love how easy it is to post anything on there.
I made the poll options visible in the body text now. I’m not sure what’s going on with it as I have to “edit and save” each time I want to see it.

I post most art on Deviantart, patially because I actually have figured how to use a lot of it, and I haven’t had time to sort out all the other platforms. Also because the amount of traffic on that site is incredible.
I quit Live journal when they started making you watch an ad before you could go to your journal.
I post wip Windstone stuff on the Windstone facebook thing, because I am more comfortable showing the messy stuff to “family”.
I still love Elfwood, but I am afraid it is withering away because of competition from Deviant art. Elfwood is still a good place for young folks, because it is so carefully moderated.March 28, 2013 at 8:38 pm #895321I’ve found deviantart to be fairly decent, though I get more conversation and comments on facebook art posts.
I left livejournal as well, some due to low traffic, and then completely when they started with the ads. I found blogger had zero traffic, and I don’t particularly like tumbler’s comment setup.
I use Pinterest and have a couple boards for my work, I love how you can arrange them by category into a collage, which then link back to their original pages, whether it be my shop, or deviantart account. However I’ve not had many comments or conversation type connections there.
I watch a couple artists on twitter.
Facebook and Deviantart are definitely my favorites as far as interactions and traffic. Hope this helps.
March 28, 2013 at 11:44 pm #895326I have an LJ, a tumblr and a DevArt account and I generally post to all of them, though not often enough that I get much traffic at either tumblr or DA. On LJ I have my list of friends, but that seems to be dwindling over the course of time (which makes me sad, LJ is my favorite format).
I still haven’t figured out tumblr to the best of my advantage. It’s kind of a confusing format for me.
March 29, 2013 at 4:20 pm #895342Tumblr is very popular right now, but I cannot figure it out to save my life. There is also very little feedback on Tumblr for artwork. It makes me insane, and I am no newbie to computers or using websites. Overall you will probably get the most bang for your buck on Deviantart, because people repost to tumblr a lot of deviantart anyhow.
If you are looking for pro work, I have had more jobs come through deviantart than any other site, even my personal website.

My art: featherdust.comMarch 29, 2013 at 6:46 pm #895350AnonymousMk so with some research based on your guys’ help I think DA will be the parent platform with the ability to upload to Tumblr and Facebook options right on DA itself. Though to keep it clean cut in presentation to watchers/major client field; WIP’s, messy sketches, and silly life photos about plants and travels can go on Tumblr where there’s a facebook appendage as well and I only have to physically write up a post once for everything.
Melody and PC- Adblock takes care of those annoyances for Livejournal. I’ve never actually seen a video ad the entire time I’ve been on LJ so I’m not sure if that’s the right cure for your computer, but adblock is a plus for internet ads in general.
I would favor Elfwood over DA if they would just upgrade their interface D: It hurts to try and read their tiny tiny text or navigate the site. But it’s a wonderful community none the less.
For all of you wanting a better grasp on Tumblr this is the best video explaining what Tumblr can do, but sadly it’s recorded on the old interface so things are in different places today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTRGPKU8SlQ
I still recommend a watch so you will be able to recognize the features while working through today’s interface. If you’re still left boggled I can offer a group livestream and/or Skype Q&A session scheduled for the best time. Just reply to say what times (incl timezone) you’re available or a list of questions that I can answer during the stream to record for rewatching.
I’ve been using Tumblr for MLP art and I have to admit that, once you get through template designing for your blog, it’s an amazing site for clean, professional looking displays that shows your stuff the easiest, fastest possible way on your front page.
However, for the reblogging feature; it’s still pretty messed up when on a stranger’s front page and you’re trying to get to the blog of origin of a particular repost (basically reblogs are orphaned blogs unless the original source is linked within the content), so your best chances of gaining followers on Tumblr is promoting on other sites. From there it’s stupid simple for users to favorite, follow, reblog, etc. It’s a good traffic avenue to link back to your DA or ‘whatever site’ for everyone is using it these days and especially when you attract popular rebloggers as they are seen as the trendsetters.
The artist avenue is still in development in my opinion due to the terrible origin sourcing, but I think we can figure a way around it together if we all choose a single sourcing method with each post :3May 26, 2013 at 12:02 am #897871DeviantArt has more options than Tumblr. Tumblr has a limit on Asks/Messages, there’s no outbox, you cannot favourite/bookmark and organize art, and Tumblr is rife with art theft like DeviantArt is.
But I’ve got to cast my vote for DeviantArt. It’s an art community, first and foremost, even with the theft. Tumblr and LJ is for blogging and naughty pictures.
