I just have to rant about this, so I hope you guys and girls don’t mind too much.
My BEP OW came today. I was in Lausanne, so the post office is holding him for ransom until I go pick him up tomorrow. Ransom price: CHF 105.05, or about $85.
No, I’m not very happy. This whole day was a series of ups and downs. Lausanne turned out to be a beautiful city, and I found my conversational French to be much better than I expected. Kaori, the Windstone dealer in Lausanne, was closed, but in looking through the windows I couldn’t see a single Windstone anyway. I wasn’t too sorry I’d been spared from buying – or so I thought, until I came home to find the ransom note.
Underneath it was also the confirmation that I’m now officially a Swiss citizen. That does make me very happy and proud. But with Windstones, $85 on top of the $475 winning bid and $57 shipping… I’m spending fledglings left and right. 😥March 2, 2007 at 8:19 pm #489929March 2, 2007 at 10:41 pm #546769Wow! That’s high! How do they figure customs? In Canada, it’s 14% taxes.
I feel for you big time!

In Québec it’s 6% GST and 7.5% PST, and I think the Maritimes have it even worse…
But I agree, it’s the brokerage fees that are the worse… up to 40%!!!
I think we already went over this a while back though 😆
March 3, 2007 at 12:16 am #546772Sorry GB. That really stinks. 👿
March 3, 2007 at 1:48 am #546773I forgot…

Mais évidemment! Si tu peux bien lire et écrire, (and I assume you can since you aced your exam) c’est sûr que tu peux bien parler! Une bonne étudiante comme toi, franchement… 😆

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmMarch 3, 2007 at 4:24 am #546774I’m sorry for the misfortune. You need to find someone that can send them to you as a gift if that woudl help
March 3, 2007 at 5:23 am #546775Thanks for the sympathy, everybody, but I’m still sore about it. Not even sleeping on it helped any. Right now I don’t even want the OW anymore – not at that price! Of course it’s too late to go back now, but I just feel like such an idiot. $85 is a lot of wasted money when there were so many ways to save it.
Like DM said, I could have had it sent from Wolfen’s as a gift. I could have had my aunt FedEx it – we don’t need to pay fees there. Stupid stupid stupid.
I am going to ask Karen whether on future buys she can put down the material/production cost as the value, rather than my winning bid. Customs charges according to value (7.6%), weight, and then I think there’s some tariff in there too.
I just remembered I had to pay 40 some franks for Pip’s emerald OW and didn’t mind that. I totally forgot they charge by value. What a great start to the day. 👿March 3, 2007 at 5:30 am #546776dragonmedley wrote:I forgot…

March 3, 2007 at 9:40 am #546777Im sorry GB. Def ask about lowering the value on the form.
March 3, 2007 at 9:41 am #546778He’s home, looking very regal and doing his utmost to help me forget how much more expensive he was than I’d wanted. Live and learn, I guess. The fee was made up of 41.40 for customs and 53.65 for sales tax. Much more of this and it’ll be cheaper to rent a Learjet and go pick them up in person.
March 3, 2007 at 9:42 am #546779Dang he is pretty! He looks better in your pics than in the auction!
March 3, 2007 at 9:45 am #546780Oh Ski, you just made my day. (It must be the hormones or something.) Thank you. He really is gorgeous. Wolfen was right when she said he looked washed-out in the auction photos.

😆 Glad I could help. I was wondering why the price on these guys has not gone down. The black gold went down. One went for around $250. These guys are not getting any CHEAPER though!! I may actually miss out, but now I can see why. They are AWESOME! Now I REALLY want one!!!
