Today I found a bag of 150-200 PYO unicorn horns. They are raw pewter, without any gold plating. These can be painted with acrylics if we base coat them with a special primer first. Would you guys be interested in having PYO unicorns with paintable horns, or do you prefer the normal gold-plated horns?

Life is beautiful.

Because we have the pewter castings for them, we could have these horns gold-plated like normal. But I thought if enough people want paintable horns, maybe we could skip having them plated.

I agree. Sometimes, the gold plated works, but other times, it would be nice to go with another color.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

May 24, 2012 at 2:57 am #880848I think paintable horns would be fun to try, though I like the gold horns too.
May 24, 2012 at 3:00 am #880850Can you add a “Both” option to the poll, Pam? XD
May 24, 2012 at 3:06 am #880851Either way is fine by me! It’s nice to think we might be able to get a few unicorns to paint.
May 24, 2012 at 3:11 am #880852I’d also say both–with the caveat of “whatever we can have soonest!” LOL If gold plating is going to take three months, but paintable we can have next week (etc…not holding you to times), then I’d go paintable.
Or if they’re the same horns as used for the youngs…I’d say plate ’em and let’s have another Young GB in the same Safari theme as the recent GB babies. 😀 (With copious apologies to Melody, who by now is probably sick to death of painting stripes and spots!)

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.May 24, 2012 at 1:03 pm #880867I would have to say both. I do love the gold plated horns, but in some cases, I do find other colors would be more fitting, or just give a completely different effect (gold has a warm effect, silver toned is cooler, etc.). I’d suggest silver, but silver reacts differently than the gold plating if I remember correctly. I remember Jennifer mentioned something about this when she was doing leafing on a pyo (I think she went with aluminum leaf because of that).
May 24, 2012 at 2:35 pm #880868Either I just want them to come back !
May 24, 2012 at 4:55 pm #880871Part of me really wants the gold horns back.. another part of me, really likes the idea of being able to paint the horn silver 😀 so I’m perfectly happy with either! I’m just eager to think PYO unis might make a comeback in the store!
