Smrgol was the name of my 4 foot iguana that I lost. The bird is so wonderful. I love those feathers! I love my Cookie bird so much, but I do wish sometimes secretly *and I would never tell him* that he had a few colors…ha!

      Loverly rocks too…nice color.

He’s lovely! What kind of parrot is he?

I used to have a pair of American Pied-light green Peach Faced Lovebirds when I was in high school. Patience and Fortitude (the lions in front of the NYC Public Library). From what I’ve been told, one of the hardest lovebirds types to train and my mom got them as a starter bird for me. Very pretty (the reason my mom picked them), but nasty, ill tempered little buggers. They didn’t live terribly long unfortunately. They would not eat any bit of fruit we bought for them (had to add vitamins to their food because of it) and I could not train them properly (my mom wouldn’t let me take them out of the cage to train them – they might poop on the rug). They had a good sized house at least. One died unexpectedly (don’t know why.. right after I left for college.. he was found dead in his cage one morning), and the other died soon after, I think, from heart break, because they were a true pair. Mom thought they were ‘pretty’ rather than researching them and they came from a pet store, which I don’t like when getting pets. I really wish my dad had talked her out of the idea and into his idea of a conure or something else more trainable. I felt bad for them. 😥 They were never remotely affectionate. Not one of my mom’s better ideas. My mom is better with furry creatures, like cocker spaniels.

I’d love to get a hand raised sun conure, quaker, or parrotlet someday when I have my own place, so I can train him correctly. I wouldn’t mind a masked lovebird, but I’d want to get them young and from a breeder. I won’t ever get one from a pet store. I’m a little too transient at the moment (I plan on going to Japan in a few years and then to grad school maybe), so it wouldn’t be fair to the bird.

Megapixel (betta) has made 4 moves across the country, and he’s an old fart! 5 years is really pushing their lifespan. Most of the time if you can get them to 3 or better you did a good job! He’s just very resilient and I take the best care of him that I can. 🙂

Gorbash is a Maximillian Pionus, also known as the scaly headed parrot (scaly and green: Gorbash! When I was 5 I wanted to grow up and marry Gorbash. The dragon- I didn’t have the bird then!!).

I also have a Bronze Wing Pionus named Khu:

Two cockatiels, and we hope to adopt a macaw someday (one that needs a home or is in an adoption program). I’ve worked with parrots and birds both professionally and as a hobby for over 10 years, it’s great!

Get one that is both hand raised and parrot-raised (as in, interacted with humans as a baby, but also raised by its feathered parents)! This way it is socalized but still knows it’s a parrot. Khu is a rescue that is mentally.. well, she’s right messed up because she was hand raised only. Not all parrots suffer from this but it does cause them a lot of psychological issues at times.

Or better yet, adopt a needy parrot! There are thousands of homeless ones right now, and conures and lovebirds are high up on the list of birds that people give up. Plus with an adult bird, what you see is what you get in terms of personality. No “what if my parrot grows up to be a screaming demon?” 😉

Just food for thought! Good luck in whatever you decide. 😀

I was going to point out this page too, if no one had gotten you pics.

I have evil plans to get all of the other browns available direct.

Someday my curio cabinet will be full, but first, I need my curio cabinet!

Megapixel is an old fart! I’ve only known of 2 older, and those only made it to 6 (I used to manage tropical fish dept.s).

What are those lovely rocks? They go great with the peacock Oriental!

They’re large labradorite polished specimens. 🙂 I love labradorite.

So that’s labradorite. It makes your newest griffin look even better to see how well you transferred the colors from the rock to the griffin.

I love the old browns….I really want to get all the sculpts in brown and old green..I wonder if Melody will ever do an old green OW. Drool……Brown, Old Green and Autumn Leaf are my three faves closely followed by Copper Mauve, Black Gold, Em Peacock and White, in that order. I like all the others but not with the same enthusiasm.

Nooo no more old warriors (besides emerald peacock). I can’t buy them so it will be TORTURE!

Aw, C’mon….I’m thinking in a year or two…I don’t have an OW at all yet but I’m wanting to get the brown as my first! The old green is just one which I think would be nice in that color and would have to have. The chances are near nil though considering I think I read they were nearly out of the old green paint 😥 😥 😥 .

You need a better squeaker. Want me to give you a few pointers? 😆
