I got these last year or so, from a friend who has a bunch of these, still in boxes. There are more to the set, but I gave some away as I thought they were kinda bland. Has anyone ever seen these before?

I was thinking of maybe repainting them, lol ! But their texture is so rough, with lots of tiny nooks and crannies, Im not sure how good a job I could do.

I’ve never seen them before. They do look like they’d be a challenge to paint for exactly the reasons you listed. Plus they might be even harder on a brush, physically, than even Melody’s gypsum statues. Maybe if you had an air brush they’d be easier (though having never used an air brush, I don’t know for sure that’s actually true).

That’s the first that I’ve seen these guys, they’re definitely complicated looking in their details.

Check out my finished artwork at http://falcolf.deviantart.com/ and my sketch/studio blog at http://rosannapbrost.tumblr.com/

        Excellent!

Those are interesting pieces. I think my favorite is the guy in the upper right corner (the one with the stump). But I do not like their paint jobs! So pale and faded looking! I’d be far too tempted to repaint them.

Well, if you don’t care about them you could use them for painting practice. Are they glazed or anything? If not they might absorb paint fairly well. Though I re-painted an incense burner from Walmart and oh my gosh…. It took FOREVER because it was so rough and absurdly textured! It would take a lot of coaxing to ever make me paint something like that again.

No, they are not glazed that I can tell. And I also hate their paint jobs… one reason I had already given others away that I had. They are just homely because of the paint jobs…. I dont know what the makers were thinking- easy way out maybe?

I dont care about them, and would like to try repainting them.. but I dont want to ruin all my brushes and end up wasting paint on them either. Oh well, I will think about it for now, and stash them back away out of sight, lol !

What about spray painting them and then adding some details with a brush after?

Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

They look like they may be a resin/hard plastic material? I imagine they are a brush killer. lol Don’t know for sure, but that’s the visual sense I get from them.

I believe your right, they seem to be a hard plastic material. They are hefty though, not light like cheap thin plastic.

And spray painting would likely work, but Im not about to spend a bunch of cash to buy spray paints, these guys are just not worth it 😉

I wouldn’t bother with different color spray paints. Just a white primer. That would lower the cost. But you’d still run the problem of wrecking havoc on your brushes when you painted with them. If you wanted to take the time, you could buy some super cheap brushes. But in the end it really comes down to if you think they are worth it.

Lol. Though if you wanted to play a game you could start a round robin paint job. Have a sign up sheet and each person paints a stage on a piece before sending it to the next person. Though everyone would have to agree to eat the shipping & handling costs (and post pictures after they finish their stage of painting). And I don’t know what would be done with the finished piece. But that’s just an amused idea from my head. It’s not a serious suggestion unless it catches your fancy.

The round robin paint job sounds like it may be fun, but I really dont think people would want to pay shipping to send it each time. Either way, thanks for the ideas 🙂
