My younger cousin brought over 2 big boxes of model horses she had as a kid in the hopes that I could sell them for her. I don’t know what any of them are worth and I know ebay can be a fickle place for price checks. She’s 21 and engaged to a Marine ( 😉 ) and she is attending the University of Texas and will graduate…truthfully Im not sure, but within a year. I’d like to get top dollar for her horses so she can help pay down student loans and help fund her wedding in 2012. (Hey, every little bit helps)
If I post pictures (yes, I know Im very slow at posting pictures) can anyone help me identify them? Or have an idea of value? Or if anyone is interested, they’re welcome to make an offer on them as well. I won’t be selling them as a lot, just individually.
There are Breyers, Grand champions, Barbie horses, “fantasy” horses, and some “off brand” ones as well. They are all in great shape-many of the Grand Champions still have the original string “ribbons” in their hair and the gold elastic ties around their feet.
ALSO, on a side note, I was browsing ebay looking to see if I recognised any of my cousin’s horses on there and I saw this gorgeous guy O.O

Does anyone have one for sale or trade? Preferably trade if he’s valued at what he’s going for on ebay. I have Windstones! 😀January 13, 2011 at 8:51 pm #835718Purplecat knows a bit on Bryers and off brands, she may be able to offer some info on what types they are and where you may be able to sell them. I’m always amazed at what she knows.
January 14, 2011 at 4:50 pm #835719The model you have pictured there is “Technicolor” a decorator color on the Huckleberry Bey mold…A 2009 Breyerfest Tent special…meaning that they could only be purchased AT breyerfest, and only with a special ticket. The prices that “Tent Specials” go for varies quite a bit, depending on if they sold out, and how many were in supply.
Unrealistic color combos on model horses are called “Decorator” colors…and you may sometimes get lucky by simply searching “Decorator Breyer” and getting some auction by a person who doesnt really know the value of what they have. It’s much like typing in “Dragon Sculpture” in search of miscreant windstones. 😀
If it’s the mold and sculpture you like more than the color, just look up “Huckleberry Bey” and you’ll find he’s been done in many beautiful color combinations over the years…though one personal note…this particular sculpture has a tendency to tip, he comes with a small foot support on his front foot, which can get loose and cause him to fall over. I’d reinforce it with some glue on any of that particular sculpt you buy.
Hope this has been some help!
January 15, 2011 at 1:41 am #835720You can use the Identify your Breyer website for looking up the breyer horses for identification: http://www.identifyyourbreyer.com/
You can also use Pony Lagoon for identification and get a feel of general prices: http://ponylagoon.t35.com/breyermoldslist.shtml
However, I think the prices listed there are no longer representive of todays market, as the model horse hobby is feeling the effects of the economy like many other collectible hobbies.Looking on MH$P and Ebay for each individual horse might be a better way to get what the going/asking prices are. Not sure. Maybe others have better suggestions.
