I’m visiting my brother (the same one who gave me the curlies) in Tennessee while he’s off on leave. We’ll be hitting all the big sites, but does anyone in the area have recommendations? Windstone related or otherwise. 8)
August 5, 2007 at 12:05 am #605937In Memphis there is Graceland Elvis’s home. Nashville has Dolly World and Country Music related attraction. That’s about all I know of….
August 8, 2007 at 12:18 am #605938Yeah, after reviewing the state and the amount of replies I got… There isn’t sh!t to do here. I can’t wait to go home.
August 8, 2007 at 1:24 am #605939Depends on whether you want a tourist trap or a hike. Which side of the state are you visiting? The Eastern side has mountains and parks to visit.
Memphis has the river, Nashville also has a ginormous mall where Opryland used to be.
But yes, if you’re looking strictly for city-type attractions, there’s not much. If you’re looking for the mountains, the Cherokee reservations, the Appalachian Trail, Clingman’s dome, streams to visit, etc. there’s a whole world.
August 8, 2007 at 2:30 am #605940There’s a shop in the Gatlinburg Strip mall that had a couple sitting peacock spectrals and I know he had a couple peacock laps for 150 apiece…Had some other pieces I was excited to see in person without having to buy. He also had….let’s see…rainbow emperor, em-p male, peacock mother and father…I think that’s it. I was sooooo broke when I was there I coulda cried…There’s a really cool diner in pigeon forge that had the best food ever, in huge portions! It’s a boxcar style diner called Mel’s.
August 9, 2007 at 2:14 am #605941Gah! You tell me this now!?! *whining* Now I ‘m going to go sulk. A peacock scratcher! Oh well. I will report more later… I didn’t even get to visit the Eastern half and that’s where I really wanted to go! Grr… Oh well.
August 9, 2007 at 11:35 am #605942I must not have seen this in time…I’m sorry…. 😥
August 9, 2007 at 12:28 pm #605943Oh, I absolutely love Gatlinburg! It’s one of my most favorite places to go. There is so much to do there, and it’s nestled right in the Smokies.
I’ve seen that store that carries the Windstones. It’s like in a little mall on the side of the main road through Gatlinburg. They always have some in the display window calling my name!
Anyway, if you haven’t been to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, you should definitely go. Lots of shops and restuarants, cool aquarium, and just fun! If you like pottery… then you should go to this place called Alewine Pottery. It’s off the main road through Gatlinburg, tucked in the arts and crafts district. Here’s their website:

Their stuff is amazing. Not really cheap, but the craftsmanship is worth every penny in my opinion. I never really cared about pottery until I went to their store. Now, I have to buy something from them every time I visit the town.
When it comes to food, there is a place I can recommend for lunch and dinner. It’s called The Old Mill, and is in Pigeon Forge. I forget at what traffic light though. They have the best southern style food I have ever had. That place is very popular, and you need to go at non-peak hours… or you’ll be waiting a very long time for a table.
The restuarant is right by their own general store and pottery store… the famous Pigeon River Pottery place.Well…. I certainly did type a lot didn’t I? I could go on and on about Gatlinburg. I love it there so much! Did you know it’s the wedding capital of the south? My husband and I got married there a little over two years ago at the Chapel in the Glen.
