FRUITS BASKET – does anyone want it?? I’ve gone through about 3 or 4 boxed sets…I got into the series before it was licensed here, so I kept trying to get a boxed set (“bootleg”) that had subtitles that made SOME sense…which you know can be difficult if you’re familiar at all with hong kong bootlegs. Anyway, I finally bought the US release when it came out, and now I still have one of the old boxed sets – about half the episodes have pretty crummy subtitles, but it does also have the english voice track. The video and voice tracks are perfect and good quality. Let me know if anyone wants it…I’d love to get rid of it for $20 or so… this series is SO worth seeing, even if you’re not usually into anime. And I’d say it’s good for all ages.

But man…. if you’d asked me to pick somebody to make Earthsea into a movie, I couldn’t have picked anybody better than Miyazaki. Even if it looks like some things got changed a lot, it also looks like the best bits are still there, and done just right.
Oh god’s yes the Sci-Fi Channel version of Earthsea sucked. Even the author was disappointed.
For her point of view on it: http://www.ursulakleguin.com/Index-EarthseaMiniseries.html
I’m not a big fan of the Miyazaki art stlyes but maybe they will do a better job with the movie.
January 8, 2007 at 5:19 pm #523845Of what I’ve seen of anime, I LOVE Escaflone, I think my first true anime love. After that would be Akira that one got me into all sorts of weird crap, like Aranofski, Clockwork Orange and others. I also got a series, just 2 disks free when I got Escaflone called El Hazard, it’s actualy pretty entertaining, pretty dumb, but something to watch on a rainy day. Oh, and I can’t forget Queen Esmerelda the space pirate!
January 8, 2007 at 6:09 pm #523846I have El Hazard, but I stopped watching it about halfway through and never quite got back to it. It wasn’t bad. It reminded me of Kyo Kara Maoh, but obviously alot shorter.
I figured while I was here I’d mention …
Gad Gaurd – Not a bad series, reminded me of an anime version of transformers with little kids each having their own Gad (transformer) 26 episodes
&
Desert Punk – Roughly 26 episodes too. This series was hysterical and set in kind of a Trigun rip off world. About a perverthed bounty hunter, but the ending kind of pissed me off though I still loved the seires.
& one more I thought of
GunSword – I’m still in the process of watching it, but it’s another Trigun world rip off with a hint of Cowboy Bebop.
Oh yea, and while I’m thinking of it…
Wild Arms – This one I really liked, I thinkit was around 12 -18 epidoses, but it migt have been in the 20s. I can’t remember, but it was pretty good. About this famous outlaw who got trapped in the body of a little kid.
&
Getbackers – Lots of epidoes. Probably in the fifties cause it had two 6 disk box sets. YAY! Shinji and Ban! 2 very hot anime guys who get your stuff back when it gets stolen by weirdos and pshycos. Shinji is the lightning emperor and Ban has this thing he does called a jagon…which (if you watched South Park epidoes when Earth is a reality TV show) cracks you up whenever they talk about how great Ban’s jagon is! HAHAHA! I wish they could have picked a better word for it.
