Wrapped in bubble wrap inside peanuts, then double boxed. That’s what I’d say works best if you don’t have the original box. You have to put enough peanuts in there to keep it from moving around. It’s worth it to go buy a bag of packing peanuts from the UPS store — cheaper than losing your item and money too, when you have to do a refund.

The problem is that you can’t, with your hands, squeeze a ball of newspaper as much as a brick can. A package containing a brick, or a Windstone sculpture, dropped from 4 feet to a solid floor packs a punch that will compress crumpled newspaper to the consistency of a solid book. Even if the newspaper does then spring back (a little) the damage is already done.
The only answer is way more bubblewrap and foam peanuts, or something that absolutely traps the sculpture at its strongest points (as with the form-fit cardboard boxes).
August 30, 2007 at 10:27 pm #611526I find the best way to pack Windstones when you don’t have the original box is bubblewrap in the inner box (that’s why I went through more than 900 square feet of bubblewrap when I sold some of my collection. Outer box, fill to the absolute top (and then some) with packing chips. If you don’t have enough bubblewrap then paper (but after about 10 layers of bubblewrap you wouldn’t need much paper.) Nothing should move at all. If anything moves it’ll break! (Or the box will be destroyed.)
I’ve only sent one windstone singleboxed. It did arrive in one piece. I didn’t know any better. When I found out about double boxing I started and now I won’t go back even if I do consider it sometimes.
I just get annoyed when someone sends me information about packing then say if I don’t do it to specifications then they’ll demand all money back. Sigh, I’ve never had anything break (knock on wood). I don’t need the instructions. But, others might, so I understand (still annoys me though…)
I would never ever send anything in just packing chips. That’s a sure way to break something!
August 30, 2007 at 11:27 pm #611527nod now i’d have it done a bit diff, because i also have learned how to make card board fitted wedges held in place with peanuts. plus I have about a billion feet of bubbleswrap from the horses i have.
tho i’ll be selling them before windstones wich may not be far off i have to move out about 140 horses to make room for b/f moving in he needs space too for his own computer lol back then we didn’t have a UPS or mailing store just the tiny post only way to get bubbles would have been to buy some online and even with BT’s carfull packing i had a old warrior come with smooshed front claws so i think not JUST a matter how uber u pack . there is a chance if the box is mistreated and it’s not a factory issue n i have had issues with stuff packed in penuts even when brimming with it so much the box was slightly distened when sealed shut. so i think it is a bit of luck as well as packing i’m annoyed that my local stores dont’ always save boxes for smaller stuff.. but it’s cheaper than factory when u figure cali tax PLUS shipping even if shipping is mega cheap because they are in driving distance wich isa note i really really must make soem arrangments to go to the factory once things are settled here so I can see in person the things i’ll never afford lolSeptember 17, 2007 at 6:05 pm #611528OK……so I am really confused right now, I requested a refund via paypal and now the seller has requested to have the items returned for a full refund but I will have to cover the shipping costs and I don’t know what to do, on one hand I would prefer to have a mint black peacock male griffin but on the other hand I feel sad sending him back becasue I do not know what is going to happen to him.
This really sucks….I am so confused right now.
What would you guys do? ❓Marzena
September 17, 2007 at 7:33 pm #611529Well, she might need the bits to put in a claim to the PO. I’d send him back unless you can negotiate a cheaper price…whatever you paid, minus the cost to repair him. I can tell you that Kyrin did an excellent repair on my griffin.

What would you guys do? ❓I would send the broken bits back and hope the seller is honest and does give the refund. Presumably the seller got paid by the Post Office?
Then I would keep an eye out for another Griffin and chalk the upset, expense, and loss of time to “random fluctuations in the scheme of things”.
You don’t have much of a choice. Well, you do, but the choices are to send the bits back for the seller to throw away in exchange for the refund, or for you to keep the bits and the seller keep the money. I am almost certain that I know which of these two the seller is hoping to hear.
Of course, if the seller has been paid on the insurance by USPS, you could always bluff and say you took the package to your local Post Office for inspection so if he wants it he’ll have to contact USPS and buy it back from them.
