Sorry, had to post this to vent. Just thought I’d warn people of a ramble beforehand! 🙁
I was absolutely thrilled to find a peacock emperor recently for what was a pretty good deal. I’ve wanted one since I was nine, and fifteen years later I couldn’t have been more excited to finally get one. Well he arrived today via FedEx, smashed to pieces on his bottom half and chipped all over everywhere else. The seller, who assured me multiple times that he’d be well packed, sent him in a meager two layers of bubble wrap and some crumpled paper along the sides, not on bottom or on top, in a very small box. The damage was made worse thanks to a hole being ground through the bottom of the box during shipping, right through the bubble wrap, and making the poor emp look like he’d been attacked by a cheese grater all along his left side and chest. The broken tail pieces grinding against each other didn’t help either. A good deal of his bottom half is powder.
To say the least I’m heartbroken. Fortunately the shipment was insured, and I’m getting the paperwork together right now to fully file a claim with FedEx. I’ll have to post pictures of the big guy once I’m done with cooking dinner. All I know is that I want my money back. It was a terrible feeling to pick up that box and feel the giant hole in the bottom!!
RAR! Despite the damage, I must say that what’s left of him is absolutely stunning. The detail is amazing and no wonder I was so struck by this sculpt when I first saw it as a child. He will be repaired! I really hope that I don’t have to completely repaint him, since peacock is my favorite color scheme. He’ll move up to the top of my fix-it list.
Sorry to ramble folks, just getting things off of my chest. I’ll post pics later and you’ll see what I mean! 😥

August 14, 2007 at 12:52 am #607990OH NO! Zelda I’m so sorry to hear about that. I’m scared to even look at the pictures from your description of the box. Oh man. Now I’m going to worry about the Griffin Kyrin repaired for me even more. He’s coming home by FedEx, but he is double boxed.

From what I’ve heard, FedEx is pretty good about insurance claims!
If you need to repaint parts of him, I can help describe the process, and Melody can send you some of the exact paints you’ll need! I’d much rather he be restored to the peacock color you love. 🙂Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com
My art: featherdust.comAugust 14, 2007 at 1:31 am #607992Zelda, I’m so sorry to hear about what happened. I hope you can restore him.
I sent a Male Dragon off in the mail today. After changing boxes more than once to make sure I had enough packing around him, then changing the outside box for the same reasons, I ended up with an over-sized box to mail. I can’t even imagine trying to send an emperor through the mail.
Now I’m just hoping that the Male Dragon arrives safely so that the recipient isn’t disappointed when they open the box.
August 14, 2007 at 1:41 am #607993Thanks you guys. I’m taking some more pics just in case they’re needed, before I wash all of the dust off of him. It’s great that everyone hwew appreciates these pieces of art so much and takes the proper care in packing them. Tintaglia and Pegasil: I’m sure your critters will arrive safely! At least you guys package things like you don’t want them to break! I think it’s good advice to say buy either direct from the factory or from other forum members! Much less chance of shipping mishaps that way. Nam: thanks so much for your offer to help! Some of the factory’s paints would be wonderful too. I have a lot of metallic paints for repairing my other Windstones but I wouldn’t want to chance having big chunks of off colors with the emperor!
If anyone with an emperor could do me a huge favor, and post close-up pics of the feet and tail, and the left arm, I’d really appreciate it! I guess this big fella’s going to really test my skills.

August 14, 2007 at 2:07 am #607994Hope these help. If you need more, just let me know.
Edit:
I created a separate album for my Peacock Emperor. I’ll post the links instead of the pics so they won’t take up so much space. There are more pics of my Emperor there too. If you need more angles, just let me know.August 14, 2007 at 2:20 am #607995I am so sorry to hear about another Emp being busted. Why is it that people don’t seem to understand what packing well means?
Anyway, I hope you can fix him, if you need help, just holler.
Kyrin

August 14, 2007 at 3:17 am #607997That’s awful, Zelda. I’m sorry. But I’m glad you’re willing to give him a new life.
August 14, 2007 at 3:31 am #607998I am sorry to hear that. I hope it does get resored to the original color.
August 14, 2007 at 3:57 am #607999Here are some of the pics. The light wasn’t great in my room but I didn’t want to wait to take pictures.
