They really are amazing creatures. In one of my advanced textiles classes we were discussing how the military was working with the folks that produce Kevlar to see if there’s a way to chemicaly treat fabrics for use in camoflauge. They’ve been working with squid dna essentially, to create a textile that can’t be seen by infra red at night and can adapt to light and shadow or color and texture of the surrounding enviroment. Pretty cool stuff – the proto types recently have been showing some good results. Think what a textile like that could do for the costume and fashion industries, let alone the huge amount of protection for our soldiers…
