So I buy an item off of ebay. It has a late ship date, so I am not expecting it until tomorrow at the earliest. Ebay decides there is something wrong w/ the listing (or so I have been told) and deletes all records pertaining to it from my account. Now, I’ve paid for this item, so the seller has my money, but I no longer have the seller’s name, ebay contact information, or item number.
Ebay assures me that I am protected under buyer protection, but my question is if I do not have the information ie item number or auction information how do I file a complaint if the item never shows up? I ask the representative this and I am assured I am protected. My complaint is still if ebay deletes all the information how do I provide them with the information to open a claim?
Fortunately, I am a packrat both physically and digitally and I never delete any ebay email until I have the item in my hot little hands, so I have a digital copy in my personal email account that they can’t delete, so I do have all the information I need to open a claim just in case, but I still feel that ebay should not have deleted my purchase information before I revived the item. How is it “protecting” me to remove all the reference data in case I have a problem? More like protecting them from having to give me my money back.

December 20, 2011 at 9:43 am #866467If you paid through Pay Pal, I think you can track it by going through the “details” for the transaction. They can delete the eBay portion but not the Pay Pal payment. You won’t be able to get much, but at least you can get the seller’s contact info. I have had that happen three times but have had great luck with the sellers and have not needed the “buyer protection.” Neither buyer nor seller will be able to leave feedback though.
December 20, 2011 at 3:19 pm #866480The item arrived this morning, so it’s not a problem. I would have like my feedback though. Still, ebay should not be deleting people’s records. Take the listing down, fine, but don’t go in and destroy someone’ ability to track their own transactions.

Sun Dragon Koi #3December 20, 2011 at 5:11 pm #866495That’s strange. If you dont mind me asking, what type of item was it? Earlier this year I was bidding on perfume-and even auctions I didn’t win, I’d get a notice that the listing was not right in some way, and that if I paid through paypal, open a claim. ?? Luckily I didn’t win any of the items I got notices for, but it happened 2-3 times, and all of the items were perfume.
December 20, 2011 at 8:12 pm #866517Is ebay becoming a nightmare or what . Well I have never sold anything by them . And only got something twice thru help from ebay .
Looks like they are heading for trouble if this keeps up . -
