This is the third Windstone I’ve received recently… this makes 2 out of the 3 which have arrived broken 🙁
I couldn’t find ANY pieces! I’m guessing they were dust, and slipped right out of the box. The packaging was awful.
I was feeling good after the last stonewash Windstone I had to repair, but this one has a different texture on its wings… Does anyone have any tips?
August 7, 2014 at 5:13 am #917171Oh no, another one? That is not good. Make sure next time you buy one to tell the seller how to double box before they ship and tell them how easily they can chip or break if not packed properly, doubled boxed with bubble wrap or foam wrap and packet peanuts. At least this one isn’t worse but you should ask for a partial refund and send pictures to the seller showing them how it arrived. I am not sure how to fix these types of pieces but I would guess it would be similar to the other one. Drag0nfeathers would know again.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
August 7, 2014 at 6:07 am #917172I opened a Paypal dispute requesting a 50% refund… Rather than send it back, since it’d cost me like $20. That sounds reasonable I figured…?
August 7, 2014 at 9:29 pm #917199Did you buy that little guy from Victoria, B.C on eBay? If so I’ve bought from that seller before, and they are super easy to communicate with. Really friendly and helpful. They’re usually really careful when they pack Windstones. I’ve never gotten a broken one from them, and I’ve bought both big and small pieces.
As for fixing him I would recommend apoxie sculpt. I received an owl bookend recently who lost an ear during shipping, and the apoxie sculpt worked great to fix it. I had recovered about half of the pieces to reattach and just used the putty to fill in the missing parts. If you use a washcloth or paper towel to pat down the putty you get a great stone like texture. (I think drag0nfeathers mentioned that on the forums before.)
For the smoother texture on the wings I would suggest taking a smooth sided pen and rolling it across to get the smooth texture – then if you have a cuticle pusher (the plastic/rubber kind) use it to kind of push the putty down in little rows to create the ridges. You could use a toothpick first to make the deeper lines, then when you flatten it they should still be there – just less defined.
Good luck fixing it.
It may be a bit harder to get the pattern to match if you have to do it completely from scratch but it should work. It’s kind of like playing with play-doh only more nervewracking. 🙂
August 7, 2014 at 11:54 pm #917205The above is an obvious statement that I personally do not have any real sculpting tools, so I make do with what I find around the house. 🙂
August 8, 2014 at 5:32 am #917213Thankfully they have agreed to give me a partial refund. I think I’ll use that money to buy some Apoxie Sculpt… As this is the second broken one already, seems like a good investment!

Thank you! I will definitely try the toothpick/smoothing technique.

My apologies, I missed this before! The seller was in Texas I think, not B.C.
Will update when I’m able to try to repair it!
