Uh…I just went to list something and it says they will soon be removing the insurance option. WTF?
From eBay:
“Optional buyer charges for shipping insurance will no longer be allowed. Sellers can still buy shipping insurance and add the cost to the item or shipping price”.So, you can still offer insurance as a seller. I just hope the auctions state “insurance included in shipping price”, if that is the case. Otherwise, be sure to contact the seller before you place a bid and save the correspondence that states your package will be shipped with insurance.
Anyone have any idea why they think taking the insurance option out is a good idea? Does it streamline something for eBay and/or PayPal? I can’t think of any reasons it would benefit the buyers or sellers, can you? Do they want people to depend solely on PayPal Buyer or Seller Protection? Those policies contain more clauses than a case of Christmas cards. 🙄
August 3, 2009 at 6:13 pm #778080I think it all comes down to money. I wonder if ebay simply wants to lessen their responsibility for anything that happens to an item, and this is a sneaky way to do it?
August 6, 2009 at 6:05 pm #778081AnonymousIf that’s the case, then you’d see the PayPal protection disappear too.
August 7, 2009 at 3:52 am #778082Woo, let’s hope not.

actually.. they are taking the option out.. I think a lot of it they are making insurance mandatory for certain auctions.. so it will be included whether you want it or not..
at least that’s what I got out of it..
and as we can see here.. everyone’s interpretation of it is different.. but I usually send everything fedex.. so insurance is already included in the price.. and I don’t worry about it..
