I had time to finish my dragon today. I put is aside for a couple days so I would not over work it. I ended up leaving the scales alone for the most part. I wasn’t sure if he was going to turn out until I put the interference paint on him. That made all the difference in the world.
This pic was taken after I finished the scales on the other side. I then went over the wing edges and smaller scales with dark green.

http://www.zymdragon.com/windstone/ancient-forest-08.jpgAfter adding the dark green, I went over the smaller scales with dark brown again, so they would blend in better with the larger scales. I also started painting the claws and horns in white, then went over them with a yellowish brown wash to try to make them look like bone.

http://www.zymdragon.com/windstone/ancient-forest-11.jpgHere he is finished, minus the matte protective finish I will spray on. The pics just aren’t doing him justice even though I tried sitting him in the sunlight.

I’ll see if I can get better pics posted later this week. I need to buy a couple lights so my pics look better. Next time I do this color scheme, I will get the straw colored eyes. Now I just have to remember all I did so the Keeper turns out like this guy. 🙂
And yes WolfenMachine, I used an airbrush for his base coats.

January 25, 2008 at 5:20 am #658127Ok… those previous pics really sucked. I didn’t realize how bad they were until I spent some time tonight and came up with these.
These pics are a MUCH better representation of the coloring, and they are even in focus!

February 8, 2008 at 2:04 am #658137I think I’ll keep all of the “Ancient Forest” dragons in this thread. I started working on the keeper a few days ago, so here are a couple “in progress” pics. The coloring on the keeper is much more in line with my original idea for this color scheme.
I thought I was ready to paint the large scales, but after taking a closer look at the photos, I see that I have a bit more to work to do. This sculpt is definitely a challenge and also very fun to paint!

February 8, 2008 at 2:19 am #658138Cool!
