IMO he looks like he’s “missing something” with the blue eyes…
December 30, 2007 at 12:05 am #642233Mmm, pretty. I definitely like the straw better than that particular blue, but I think a lighter blue might be nice..
Cummon, Zorse, you need to make us some good purple eyes! 😀

-J R R TolkienDecember 30, 2007 at 4:34 am #642234i say shades of purples with orange eyes too. maybe some orange detailing to help the eyes go better.
December 30, 2007 at 6:46 am #642235I like the straw eyes better than the blue. The blue doesn’t seem to match the blue in the body and doesn’t seem to look right. I like the contrast of the yellow eye with the body colors.
December 31, 2007 at 7:07 am #642236I vote for straw-colored eyes, too. Either way, though, he’s one gorgeous dragon.

It’s really cool what you’re doing with the glass eyes, dark_zorse. 🙂 Dichroic glass is fascinating, and I’ve always wanted to play with it (just have never had the means nor finances to) as some of the effects you get with the oxides is very similar to opals!
Yeah, dichroics can be *really* expensive, but fun to play with. The stuff I typically play with starts at around $1.50 a square inch, and goes up from there (both black-cack and clear). The opalescent qualities are one of the reasons I like playing with them. My better pieces can’t be distinguished from truly fine black opal specimens. But they are a real pain in the butt to get them to come to gem quality. Only about one in twenty gains that distinction, on a good day. If you want to play with them though, you’d do better trying to find a glass blowing/fuzing class at a studio near you (They are reasonably common) rather than trying to gather all the materials yourself. It would give you a better background with COEs and all that along with kiln access – that’s the biggest expense of the whole thing.
And for those of you wanting some better colors on the eyes, just sit tight. I’ve got some samples I’m going to be playing with shortly. True purple is the priority, but I will be experimenting with lots of other colors! Expect to see some of these (hopefully!) soon!

December 31, 2007 at 6:10 pm #642239So Jen, what color of eyes is it going to be?

December 31, 2007 at 9:02 pm #642240Melody sent me some more eyes… I gotta wait till they get here to decide! I don’t know what she sent. She told me she sent every color in the emperor’s size.

December 31, 2007 at 10:16 pm #642243Hopefully you get a pair of light blue ones, cause I think they would look really nice.
December 31, 2007 at 10:25 pm #642244I think purple or Lavender would look best

Agreed!
December 31, 2007 at 11:29 pm #642246I dunno. I think lavender would blend in too much… I like for the eyes to draw on a color that you might not notice as much on the sculpture. I don’t even know if the folks at the factory make the emp’s eyes in that liver color! 🙂
