My parents had a 1964 Checker (same configuration as the old Checker taxis – you could put two air mattresses on the floor between the front and back seats), but it never had a name other than “The Checker”. I learned to drive on the thing – three on the tree, Continental truck engine, HEAVY … it took a while to start moving very fast but did OK once it got rolling. My parents gave it to me and I passed it on to my son, so it is still in the family. 🙂
