Greater Basilisk named her truck, and Rusti named her car too I think… I just call mine my teuf-teuf (even though my car’s not a putt-putt car at all).

Yep! My Ford Ranger was Half Pint and my current car, my Mustang is ‘Deo (Short for Amadeo, I can never be bothered saying the whole thing). The cars I drove that my parents bought, a few of them had names. The Dodge Cummins diesel was Ravage, there was Big Red and Little Red, both trucks, and Stupid Van, that vehicle you drive around as a right of passage in your last two years of school…

My sister names hers too. The Fit was Guido and her Toyota SUV is Patronus.

When I was a teenager around eleven years old or so we got a red Toyota Camary which I unoriginally dubbed ‘Cammy.’ Then we got my mom’s green Pontiac Trans Port which she named ‘Tink the Tank’ (because seriously, that thing is a tank in disguise) though it now has a few less savoury nicknames now that it has turned geriatric…

My mom wants a truck next. It’ll be interesting to see if that gets a name. I’ll certainly be naming my first car! (I have a nice mint green Volkswagon Beetle pictured in my mind haha.)

I have an 02′ Honda Accord named, “Betty”. It popped into my head when I was trying to pass another car, peddle to the metal, and my car sluggishly accelerated as if to say, “I don’t want to!” (Oh, and there was nothing wrong with the engine. That’s just how it is.) I don’t know why that name came to mind but it stuck so I just ran with it. *shrug* When I told my friend the name of my car they just looked at me and said, “Yeah, I can see that.” Heh.

When I was a kid, the only car we ever named was a little yellow Jeep my dad had, we called it Lemon. Along with the Lemon my dad had a yellow boat we referred to as the Big Banana. My sister and I still refer to them as the Lemon and Big Banana. Both are long gone, my dad sold them when we left Kodiak.

My first car, an old Subaru I inherited from my sister, was “Tank” and he made a lot of dents on things, without a mark on him… the name fit well. Sadly his transmission eventually failed. I miss Tank.

My car after that, which I can’t remember what it was, other than being a second hand piece of junk, was known as “Tin Can” because we discovered the former owners had attempted a fix on her muffler using a soup can. I hated that car. One winter I slid into a guard rail, going a measly 5 miles an hour, and it turned out her air bag was on a hair trigger, and it exploded on me. I had contact burns all over my face, and was really lucky since I am a short person and have to sit really close to the steering wheel. The one nice thing about Tin Can was that her steering wheel could be adjusted to this bizarre tilt, so instead of hitting me full in the chest, the air bag clipped the lower half of my face. I kept driving her after that, my dad just ripped out the air bag and duct taped over the hole, and then wrapped a bandana around that. I was always terrified some gang banger would see the bandana and think I was in a rival gang, but it never happened, thankfully. She also stunk up to high heaven after that, think rotten cabbage and dumpster I was eventually in an auto accident on the highway, and Tin Can’s nose pretty much crumpled like, well, a tin can. That was the end of her.

My current car is a broken down, former rental, “how the heck is it still running?”, Kia Optima… with the oh so creative name of Kiki. Though most of the time I call her things that are not appropriate for this forum. Especially when I am trying to drive uphill and she just wants to crawl. I do have to say, as much as I hate her, she is still chugging along. Granted, she has had a lot of money poured into her, more than she was probably worth new, and definitely more than she is worth these days. And she better keep going for awhile, as I don’t see myself being able to afford another car anytime soon. My brother is already in that dilemma himself, since his truck went belly up last week (Kiki and I came to the rescue, as we had driven to the movies in our separate vehicles). Slvr Dvel died on him mere days before he was to start his new job, so he has been borrowing family vehicles since.

I’ve never personally named any of my cars, but my mother named her PT Cruiser Zoey Piewackit 😀

Ooh I do too! My Elantra hatchback is Herkimer, named after both the town in New York and the battle vehicle from ‘Mystery Men’, haha. Drove with him halfway across the country and back! Been a reliable, rock solid fella for ten years with me now, and I plan on running him into the ground instead of him ending up on some used sales lot somewhere 🙂

My late, truly great, and dearly missed ’86 D100 Custom/Tow Pkg Dodge Ram pickup was The Beast (named not by me but by its many grudging admirers).

My 2004 Nissan Xterra was also called The Beast. I started it up and my 10 year old cousin jumped and looked at me and said, It sounds just a beast roaring to life. The name stuck.

My b/f calls my 2003 BMW Z4 Tinker Toy It only has 32,000 miles on it but after it’s last two tips via car hauler to the repair shop for the same problem I am about to call it PITA. I guess I shouldn’t complain to much because I bought it new in 2003 and this is the first major problem I have ever had with it. It only has 32,000 miles on it because it has spent most of it’s life in my garage because my b/f won’t ride in it. He says he can’t straighten his legs out when riding in it.

I haven’t named all of the vehicles I’ve owned, but my first car was a 1969 Thunderbird named Tank. When the frame cracked on that car, I got a lovely yellow Buick Sky Hawk that was named the Duckmobile (seriously, it was a little two door with a long front end and it looked like a duck’s head and bill). About 10 years ago, my husband and I had a little Honda Civic we called the Bubble Car because it had so much visibility it felt like you were riding around in a bubble. Right now, I have a Dodge Caravan named The Magic Van because you wouldn’t believe how much stuff you can fit inside it. It’s bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. 🙂

I don’t name my cars, but I certainly don’t think it’s weird either! My TMNT obsessed roommate names her cars. She had a Prius named Sparky. Now she has a metallic dark purple Fit that’s decked out in anime and TMNT stickers. I’ve forgotten what she name this one though.

I’ve known some people who’ve named their cars. The Beast is a pretty common one for Suburbans or other large trucks.

Years ago, my sister & I named the Bronco that my parents had and which I drove for a while. We called it Billy. But I haven’t named a vehicle since then. I’ve only had 2, and still have ’em (I’m loyal like that! :D) I somewhat considered naming my Bronco (it’s an ’86 full-size Bronco. Not the one my parents had). I love it a lot and have put a lot of work into it- and haven’t even started on the exterior. But when it comes down to it, I don’t really feel like naming it. I just can’t take that seriously or take people seriously when they’re talking about their car and calling it “Michelle” or something, lol.
Despite it not having a name, I have indeed declared it to be a male. Go figure. 😛

I wouldn’t name my ’93 Accord, and haven’t even established a gender for it, because, well, it’s just a Honda. 😛 I am fond of it (it’s a good car, it’s a stick shift, and it was my grandpa’s car then my parents then mine), but the fact is it’s still a Honda. I just drive it to get places and to save gas. I won’t even put anything extra on it other than the little SF Giants sticker I was given, which I stuck in the window. (Don’t even get me started on people who have loud exhaust on cars like this!)

My husband doesn’t name his vehicles, either. Some people think it’s weird we don’t, since we’re “car people” (love ’em, work on ’em, go to car shows all summer etc.). But that’s just not “us” I guess. We do call one of his vehicles “the crossbreed,” because it’s a mix between a Firebird and a Camaro (he has a Camaro, a Firebird, and now has been building one that’s a mix between the two as well as doing a number of other more crazy & unique things to it). So we call that one the crossbreed, but that’s really more of a term than a name and is for the sake of convenience when talking.

My sister had a HUGE brown Bronco, I dont’ think it had a name… other then “The Bronco” That thing was a legend.. I busted so many mailboxes with that truck when I was a kid. LOL! I also tore apart some lovely grass in the mall… not on purpose, but the thing was a monster and I had no idea how the hell to drive it.

^Lol, Broncos aren’t THAT big! Except when raised. I do have slightly bigger than stock tires on mine, but it’s not lifted and I don’t think I’ll ever put a lift kit on it. I am a pretty short girl and have to keep things on the practical side, lol, even though a lift would be nice for off-roading (I can’t do too hardcore of off-roading like this, although it is still pretty capable for a stock vehicle). But even being a shorty, I actually feel really well-fitted to the Bronco and can see out of it quite well. I feel much better driving it than my husband’s muscle cars- I feel shorter in those and can’t see out as well! Most people would think it’d be the opposite probably.

But for a while, my brother had a lifted Bronco. That thing was pretty crazy, yeah. Harder to control AND to see out of.

Stock, though, it’s a great vehicle all around. I love Broncos. 😀 And mine was made the same year I was born! 🙂
