yeah I’ll have to get out that recipe that I have for you too….
I know I certainly didn’t stand up all that long when I did it….so maybe my way will be a tiny bit easier for you….
October 12, 2007 at 2:05 am #625556Is there anything special to look for in picking the right pumpkin to use for a pie?
October 12, 2007 at 2:39 am #625557I just picked a big one lol. I know they have pie pumpkins out there but my mother-in-law said just get a regular old pumpkin. They are cheaper and not as sweet as a pie pumpkin. I don’t like my pumpkin pie to be all that sweet. Oh and I stood all day because it took me forever to cut up the pumpkin. I have all of one knife left in my kitchen and I’ve been too lazy to buy myself a new set. I don’t think I could cut butter with that knife.
October 12, 2007 at 2:57 am #625558OH….hehe….yeah last year I broke a knife cutting up the pumpkin….
and yeah I agree…just regular old pumpkin…pie pumpkins are a lot more money…
and I think the regular pumpkin tastes better…

October 12, 2007 at 5:14 am #625561yes Frozen, please post your recipe! π
We used to grow our own pumpkin when we were kids. We’d get to make Jack’oLanterns out of the big ones and we brought them in that night so they wouldn’t freeze. Most of the Time we have snow and below zero temps on halloween here. Mum & Dad used to do all the cutting up and turning it into a mush that she would freeze. She used to freeze more than a dozen bags (one bag made 2 Pies) at a time. She make scratch pies, I have the recipe somewhere, and still makes the best Pumpkin muffins. Though now she uses canned pumpkin. Partly cause it’s a pain in the butt to make the pumpkin stuff and cause our pumpkin crop has declined in the recent years as kids move out and we haven’t had good pumpkin growing weather.

Engaged to a WeaselOctober 12, 2007 at 8:50 am #625563You know, I need to check the natural food store just down the street, I think I’ve seen peeled pumpkin before. (It’d cost an arm and leg though)

Amen! π It makes me tired just hearing about all that cutting and peeling and straining and standing. π
October 12, 2007 at 3:19 pm #625569So how was the pie??
You can also use butternut squash instead of pumpkin, as it tastes the same but you get way more flesh w/less work. (That being said, we still use pumpkins π )
