I just mentioned this to a forum friend on here and thought I would make a post about it too in case people haven’t heard of this program before. I love supporting organizations that help protect wildlife and WWF (World Wildlife Fund) is one I have been helping out for a while. They have a really cute program now where you can adopt an endangered species so WWF can help protect that animal and their habitat and they give you a cute stuffed animal as a thank gift plus a tax receipt. You can pick the animal you want to help and get as a gift and they make cute gifts as well. You get a certificate and gift bag with it as well.
This is the website for the Canada website (which I used) and you can get individual animals through them: http://shop.wwf.ca/collections/adoptions
The US website has some different options as you can get individual animals or buckets of 3 or more smaller animals that you can choose or get a pre-assembled bucket. They have global shipping so I think you can order from any countries with these links:

I’m rather impressed that the species adoptions include Hellbender Salamanders. Never knew anyone made a Hellbender stuffed animal…

HOWEVER Be sure to indicate “please don’t share my info with other organizations”
Maybe they have changed their policy about junk mail, but I used to subscribe and donate to them regularly… until I got really really REALLY annoyed by the massive amount of mail solicitations from them! I mean three or four letters every month begging for more money!
And then they must of provided my info to lots of other organizations, because we ended up being on dozens of charity mailing lists.
Fine, I often donate to worthy causes, but we were getting simply buried under junk mail solicitations, I mean it was INSANE … It REALLY made me furious! Such a waste of paper and energy!
It took years and many written requests to get off of all those mailing lists. You can tell I just needed to rant.
Don’t get me wrong WWF is wonderful, but beware of cute stuffed animals used to lure you into giving them your address, it may lead to the junk mail dark side! -a large carbon footprintJanuary 23, 2015 at 10:40 pm #924545Cool link, thank you. I’m glad they have a good rating with Charity Navigator.

Hellbenders! My college had some (the Biology department was conducting research on hellbenders and it was a big deal when we got them). Neat little guys.
January 24, 2015 at 12:48 am #924548To reply to what Melody said, I am not sure if it’s different in the U.S. than Canada but I donated to them and other wildlife organizations every year and the only things I got in the mail were a letter from them once a year. I never got junk mail or mail from anything I didn’t donate to. I know when you do donate to charities you can ask them not you put you on mailing lists and to protect your information and they have to respect that. I know there was a Christian organization I donated to before that sent me more letters but I just called them and told them to take me off the mailing list and they did.

January 24, 2015 at 1:48 am #924553I’ve considered doing this. The Snow Leopard Trust does something similar and this past Christmas I almost ordered some handmade mice from them for my kitties. I’d like to go with them I think, just because they give you a plush AND a photobook! In one of their tiers, you can support a research camera trap which I think is just a marvelous and truly helpful idea. 🙂 I worry though about the money going towards the present (plush, whatever,) being taken away from their actual work.
I usually only get one letter a year from charities, though I get emails constantly! I don’t really mind them though because since I can’t afford to donate I appreciate being notified of opportunities to sign petitions, which helps too. (Plus I have it set up so that all that gets sent to my junk mail, so if I don’t feel like reading them I can just delete them all at once without having to extract them from emails that are from actual people.)
The plush scientist dolls that WWF has are possibly the cutest things ever.

Really? Wow, totally different experience from the one that I had! I am glad!
