Sounds like a mesy situation… i don’t know if i’d go for it. I’ve done a money order in the past but it was such a hasel calling him after the dragon didn’t arrive and him having to re-send it cause it got sent back…. I would not do it again cause i realized how easily i could have been ripped off
August 16, 2010 at 2:02 am #824379Not really any additional information to add (I’m too tired to be able to think in that regard), but one suggestion you might want to consider is to have a return receipt added to the envelope, so you know that the envelope is received, especially if the amount is enough that would make you concerned. I always do this for any large payment outside of bills and suggest all my fraternity chapters do when they send large amounts of money or paperwork in to our National Headquarters for dues and are concerned with things not being received (keeps the students honest about sending paperwork too, since they know it was received and it isn’t a question of whether it was lost in the mail for the 5th time). 🙂
August 16, 2010 at 4:03 am #824380COD is a good idea, I brought that up so let’s see what she says. I’ve done transactions like this before, but this person doesn’t really have a reputation and I only have seen one comment and it was negative so I’m a little nervous.

There is no way to get a refund. Unless of course you have some sort of super cool bank that you do your checking with! But I’ve never heard of a bank that would back that up. The only possible recourse I know of is that if it’s a company, you can report them to the Business Bureau but even then you are not usually refunded unless the company in question decides to buck up and refund customers.
You can ask your bank but I suspect they’ll say tough luck 🙁
Yea well I have Bank of America so there will be no luck there I’m sure. They are a bunch of jerks…. conveniently located JERKS 😳

I bought something from someone and now they are telling me they don’t have a Paypal account and need to send a check or money order to them… I’m a little nervous about the whole thing…. how do I protect myself the best without using Paypal or credit card?
Drag0n, did you do this on eBay or on the Forum or on another sales website? If they didn’t tell you that you have to pay using a check or money order up front, then just say you are no longer interested, if you don’t feel right. If it’s on eBay they are required to take PayPal for payment and should be reported. You aren’t obligated, you didn’t buy anything, until you pay…….
If you are worried about it, don’t do it. Unfortunately you might miss out on getting something nice – but then you might also end up losing a lot of money. Yikes, that’s the only thing I LIKE about PayPal, it’s safe. But if I had to chose a money order or personal check, I feel safer sending a check; that can be traced somewhat, a money order is like sending dollar bills – it’s just gone. Also, if you sent payment by certified mail, it proves the person received it, at an address, and should they STEAL your money you CAN prosecute. That’s just a hassel :/
Best of luck in whatever you decide. So, what did you buy anyway? Hmmmm? LOL Nosey and all!
August 16, 2010 at 4:53 am #824383It was on livejournal on a fursuiting forum I am on pretty frequently where people buy and sell their items. So far I’ve had awesome luck selling and buying on there, but after I agreed to buy something I saw some comments asking the seller where THERE items were and why they still have not received them and if she planned on not sending them then to at least send the persons money back. It got me a little spooked 😮

Hmm… perhaps you can ask the seller, since you are concerned about unresolved transactions? I don’t see where that would be a problem. If there are several currently unresolved transactions, I would hold off without further information.
August 16, 2010 at 2:52 pm #824385My 2 cents is to follow your gut instinct….if you’re feeling you might get ripped off, pass on the transaction.
August 17, 2010 at 7:29 pm #824386Well, I sent the check. I called my bank ad they gave me directions on how to file a claim if I need to. *crosses fingers*

Drag0n, I just read that you sent the check – I can assume that the people who are asking where their items are got answers that you were happy with……otherwise, I don’t know why you sent money off 😡 Most the advice was to follow your gut 😮 BUT, sometimes folks just get ancy when they are expecting something in the mail – do ask the Seller to let you know WHEN the check is received. Then visit your bank and find out if its been cashed or I wonder if your bank can automatically notify you when its cashed or can you look it up online with online banking?? That way if they cash the check, and don’t notify you within a few days you might start worrying.
September 7, 2010 at 3:27 pm #824388So remember this thread? Yea, I got completely SCREWED! 🙄 The check cleared over 10 days ago and I was supposed to have the item overnighted to me…. yea well. So much for that. Now she’s ignoring my emails and my bank said it’s not fraud if actually wrote a check. Bank of America are a bunch of pieces of turds!!!!! I even called them before hand and they said it would not be a problem, now they can’t do anything about it.

My mom had hell with BofA and she had to demand to talk to thier boss more then once because they screwed up. If they said it was no problem then they should honor it. Take names and keep calling. My mom even told them at one point,”I’m sure my local news station will like to hear about this.” Talk about getting results fast.
September 7, 2010 at 6:17 pm #824390I gotta agree with Poem’s last comment, I can’t understand why you sent the money off and just didn’t back out to start with when you started hearing that other people didn’t get their stuff. I’m not sure why you’re surprised. I’m guessing you’ve got a little more faith in folks than I do.
Any rate, keep clawing your way up the chain of command at your bank until someone is able to do something for you, or you run out of options. They may be right though, if they do anything for you, it’ll probably be out of the goodness of their hearts (whatever that is) as opposed to doing it because they are legally required.
September 7, 2010 at 11:46 pm #824391So she wouldn’t do C.O.D.? Wow… I doubt there will be any protection from the bank since it was a check/money order. Sorry!
September 8, 2010 at 12:43 am #824392Anonymousdrag0n :/
🙁
:[
:{Well, sending a check is like sending cash, if you have the money in your account, they can cash it and there’s nothing you can do about it – I’m not sure why you think the Bank is somehow at fault.
Keep being nice to them. If you have their phone number, get it and call them – let them know you are very concerned.
Your only recourse, if you don’t get your item, is a lawsuit against the Seller and obviously, not many people go that far. IF that Seller is a Business, you can certainly file a Better Business Bureau claim – but I’m thinking they are just an ordinary scammer person whom we all HATE. But heck, go to the BBB online and open a case anyway! Would serve them right. Be careful of slandering them on that forum, stay factual without letting the venom spray.
You can also call the police department of their hometown and report them. Not much they’ll do but they’ll have a report which might make you feel better. And if they sell a LOT of stuff, you can notify the I.R.S. and be prepared to present them with information that you can come up with including their name, addy and things you know they sold. If it adds up, the IRS may pursue it for tax purposes.
It’s really a shame when the good-natured people of the world get screwed by people who take advantage of soft hearts. But, I believe in karma – and their day will come when they’ll wish they’d been better to people.
Sorry Drag0n :/
