I don’t really require more than a yes or a no on this –
Is it true that we are not “allowed” to post our PYOs on DA?
I think we are allowed to, we just need to give credit, where credit is due (such as this is a WINDSTONE EDITIONS COPYRIGHT SCULPTURE painted by “insert painters name here”) and we need to follow the simple rule of (putting it bluntly) not ripping off Windstones Paint schemes and claiming them as our own. If you are very clear and do not portray PYOs as your own personal artwork I don’t see the problem.
I have many of my PYOs on DA, but they all say “sculpture copyright windstone editions” (some with links, leading back to the web address you can purchase PYOs) and, on top of that they’re also all pictures that are already in the Windstone Gallery, which a mod had to approved them to have their little piece of the internet in the first place.
More then a one word answer, but it’s a yes, and a no answer so it needs a little explaining.
If I am misonformed I apologize, but it seems common sense to me. If Windstone has a problem with it, then I would have a problem even sharing my PYOs on this website in the future.

I assumed it wasn’t a problem, as I remember with photohosting stuff, such as photobucket, that it was the selling of the images that was the issue, so I don’t have the buy prints option enabled for the PYOs on DA. Of course, we all know the problem with assuming… so Nam or John might come here to reprimand me for having them up there.
One of the things I noticed with earlier DA PYO submissions was posters congratulating the submitter on the sculpting as well as painting because the descriptions usually didn’t make clear what the submitter’s contribution to the piece was. So I’ve been trying to be very clear in my own admission descriptions that I’m NOT the sculptor and give credit to miss Melody so there is no confusion. That’s in addition to the photo being tagged with a copyright notice.
And from my own experiences, I think PYOs being on DA is good advertising because I’d often get asked where someone could buy one. Now all my descriptions have direct links to the PYO section of the Windstone Store.
At the same token, I see LOTS of things, besides PYOs, related to Windstone that are blantently *ripped off concepts* BUT they DO give their credit to Windstone and that’s why they are all still up (I am assuming)

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it was one of your submissions that I copied the wording from that I use on all my PYOs for crediting and linking. =) Good job on that, haha~
I don’t think that there is any rule about posting your PYOs to Deviantart as long as they are properly credited.
The problem John and Melody have with Deviantart (and why Melody does not post her work there) is that some tricky legal business in the TOS (terms of service) and rights makes it a bit muddy about how Deviantart is allowed to USE the things you post there. Technically, they can use your work how they see fit, including for ads, etc. Now, most of the time these types of clauses are included so that no one sues them for something dumb– but they made the Windstone folks uneasy since they have to guard their rights (copyright, trademaks and trade dress) so well. So that is why they don’t post and are not comfortable with seeing Windstone stuff on there. But, again, I don’t think that it’s against the rules exactly.

Windstone is probably just unaware of them– if it infringes on Windstone’s rights then more likely than not it probably shouldn’t be there.
