I did a search to find out if this had been answered before, but if it has, I couldn’t find it, so here goes (this is a multi-part question)
What is it about a color scheme that makes it easy or hard to reproduce?
I know that contrasting colors next to each other are problematic, but what else is a factor?
Also, what is the purpose behind all the test paints? Are you looking for new production colors? or limited production colors? Or is it just personal enjoyment/artistic drive?
Are you planning to retire any of the current production colors? Will you be doing more LP schemes as opposed to large scale regular production?
I hope this doesn’t sound too much like an interrogatory, it’s really not meant to. I’m just really curious at the way you work and what you have planned for Windstone.

A. Yes, edges are the worst, but also a color made by layering a lot of transparent colors on top of each other is murder. This is the problem with Autumn leaf color. This is for a couple reasons: it is more time consuming, it is difficult to keep the color consistent if different painters are doing it, and it is difficult to touch up if there is any mistake or spot in the paint.
It is also good to have paint colors that cover well and don’t create dark and light spots easily. This makes us sound lazy, but some paints go on perfectly smooth and some, such as the “sand ” tan color, really show every little glitch in the airbrushing.I can live without that.
Q.Also, what is the purpose behind all the test paints? Are you looking for new production colors? or limited production colors? Or is it just personal enjoyment/artistic drive?
A.The only way to see if a new color looks good is to try it! Before ebay we would have carts and carts of test painted pieces that we simply threw out when we were done with them. Now, not only do we not throw them out , we can see what people’s reactions to them. I would of had no idea that some of these colors are well liked enough to consider them as possible colors without doing this. It also helps us pay the rent, which is no small consideration in this economy. Yes it is artistic drive and an education too. I am learning to experiment and fail -and not be so afraid of it!

A. Maybe the gold dragons… but I usually don’t want to get rid of something that I like. I like most of the colors we do now. If it is a color that bugs me, or is very difficult to do and isn’t a great seller, then that usually goes first.

I know I would love to get a gold Lap. 🙂 I am not a huge fan of the latest gold scheme with the violet and bronze accents, but I like the almost monochrome tone of the Lap Dragon.
