What was the question?
This Jade mystery gets weirder: We were digging through some old photos of Windstone pieces and found a photo of a Jade Scratcher! So we must of known about them.
But how and why did they get painted that way and shipped as Emeralds?? (besides the fact that the Jade color actually is closer to the color of an emerald)January 22, 2008 at 6:39 am #518911Melody wrote:What was the question?
Jade SK’s! 😀 and OW’s 🙂I think the ORIGINAL question was: whether or not Jades have been an official color-but it was answered 🙂

So far only a few pieces have been able to sneak out of the factory in Jade
January 22, 2008 at 8:26 pm #518913I vote for no as bringing jade up as a production color. We already retired emerald, and even though we know we painted both jades and emeralds of both regular dragons, and oriental dragons, they were both marketed as emeralds, and retired as such (even though us collectors make a distinction). Bringing back jade as a color would not only undercut the value of the retired emeralds, but undercut the value of existing jade pieces by decreasing their rarity. No rising from the dead for a color, I hope.
Plus, we’ve already had two varieties of green (three if you count jade). We need something more creative. Green is the ultimate cliche color for a dragon.
January 22, 2008 at 11:13 pm #518914I just want a Jade Curlie and maybe a Jade Coiled Mother Dragon to go with the Coiled Male I have. A little round family of Jade Dragons, so cute! That’s what I want. :squeak:

Ditto that :squeak: !
January 23, 2008 at 5:25 pm #518916The green dragon cliche exists for a reason- they’re very pretty! 🙂 Green is my favorite color.

My art: featherdust.comJanuary 23, 2008 at 7:25 pm #518917I still think Jade Dragons in production would do very well and be VERY pretty
January 23, 2008 at 7:34 pm #518918*clutches all the green dragons* I LOVE my green dragosn! I never really thought of it as cliche, you may be right. But green is my favorite color! (except when blue is)
If it’s a popular thing, all the more reason for the company to run with it, and do more some-kind-of-green dragons (not now maybe emerald peacock works as green for now). I do agree that jade probably wouldn’t be a good idea, though- unless it’s as LP on dragons you KNOW were never made in jade. There would be too much confusion with emeralds I think and people upset about devaluation of their existing jade pieces. Has there been an issue with people upset about devaluation of their LE OWs in experimental colors which ended up being used? (i.e. emerald peacock) Melody did say that any of those colors might end up being used, but people being people…
January 23, 2008 at 7:42 pm #518919I agree…. a jade curlie would be stellar.

Well, that’s just the thing. Until we get better documentation, we don’t know *exactly* what dragons were produced in jade. Just because a jade emporer hasn’t shown up on Ebay that this board can remember does not mean they don’t exist – there’s an awful lot of emerald dragons out there that people might not be aware are jade! The only ones we can be 100% positive that were not made in jade are the sculpts that came out after the emerald color was retired (curls). I know if I was a collector that owned, say, a jade emporer, and I knew it was SUPER rare and valuable, I would be really really pissed off that the company that retired it brought them back, and devalued my piece as a result. Melody was wise in leaving loop-holes in the pieces she is now producing that they may be used in the future because that spells out that there may be more -verbatum-, unlike the emerald peacock secret keepers.
And this isn’t to say I dislike green. I like green a great deal myself, but out of the trillions of other color possibilities for a windstone dragon, I’d like to see something new and refreshing in a color maybe we haven’t made yet.
January 24, 2008 at 5:17 am #518921As an addendum, today at the factory, I found a jade male! I am going to go see if I can’t find the color samples we saved of emerald and find out if any of them are jade.
January 24, 2008 at 3:57 pm #518922Can you show us a pic of the Jade male?

Nail in the coffin! If you are finding pieces that we didn’t know even existed in Jade, I think that’s a really good argument. I don’t think any pieces that were previously made in Emerald should ever be re-made in Jade… because no one knows for sure if there are any already out there. That’d be like bringing a retired piece back.
I think it would be neat on a new sculpt that has never before been painted in Emerald (and hence possibly Jade), as you said. That way there’s no confusion or possibility of devaluing a rare piece. Something like the new curlies would be neat. 🙂

My art: featherdust.comJanuary 24, 2008 at 4:44 pm #518924the jade’s never really thrilled me….but I do agree that the folks out there who paid several hundred dollars to get a jade with them rare really shouldn’t have their pieces drop in value. I say let the jades stay rare. 🙂
