Oh, I can answer 2 questions at once here! I got new neighbors who apparently don’t know that I run cat central over here! LOL Bubbas likes to go outside once a day for about a half an hour to go and do his dominant male cat chores. I know with him being ill recently he shouldn’t be out, but it’s hard not keep him in when he’s been doing it for the past 18 years.
So anyway, the night before last he had gone out about 2:30 in the afternoon. I began worrying at about 4 when I still hadn’t seen him. 4 turned into 5 and 6…then later 7, 8 o’ clock and no sign. Mind you it was getting VERY COLD as the sun went down. So at about 11 at night I start freaking out. Called my sister at work like “He’s NEVER gone this long! Somethings wrong!” She came home at about midnight from waitressing and we started searching for him. It was like 10 degrees out and REALLY windy. I think the windchill was well below zero by then and we still hadn’t found him after 1 AM. So my sister gives up even though I keep thinking I hear meowing. My sister’s like “I don’t hear anything, it’s freezing. He must be inside somewhere or else he’s come back.” So I keep calling him once in a great while I’d hear a tiny little meow off in the distance. Now it’s like 2:30 in the morning. I live in the city and with all the cars it was too hard to follow the sounds until the late night traffic was over.
Finially a half an hour or so into it I am across the way in the back of my new neighbors house and at their porch and I can hear Bubba’s meowing inside the house. I opened the door and it was amazingly unlocked! He lept out so fast you would think the place was on fire! I left a note thanking them for taking him out of the cold and sorry for breaking into your house, but we get really worried when he doesn’t come home at night and to please bring him back next time. I tried being as polite about it as possible.
I’m a little scared though, he must have been there all day, because he ALWAYS comes when I call him. I’m hoping they thought he was a stray, but thank goodness I didn’t give up or he could be someone elses new pet if I didn’t find him in time!
So there’s my little adventure for the week. LOL!

If they meant well they must be much better neighbors than the last batch. I’m glad you found Bubbas again.
The place was dark and deserted. They must have been in bed, though I couldn’t imagine they were sleeping through Bubbas’s insessent meowing! I don’t think it was their “main” house, it was like a hall way leading to another door that went into their real enterance to the house. There were a bunch of shoes and a rug to wipe your feet on, but it was a heavy aluminum door with no windeow, so I don’t imagine you are supposed to waltz right in. It was past 3 AM though I did want want to knock and wake them up so I just ninja-ed my way in and out really quick and quite like. I haven’t heard from them yet, I would think if they were mad they would have come over and said something. To be safe though we didn;t let Bubs go ut today, and now it’s snowing out so I dont think he’ll care to go for a while.
Crisis averted. Me = hero for the day =D

It sounds like they were trying to keep him out of the cold for the night. Make sure you thank them in person and introduce them to all your cats, so they know which ones are spoken for. 🙂
