Well, I just made a very difficult decision this morning; I made an appointment to have my dog put to sleep.
She’s a 12-year-old chinese hairless crested. We got her from the breeder when she was 2, so already an adult and with a few physical and personality problems. I had never seen such an under-confident dog. I couldn’t get out of her sight, otherwise, she’d run away. She’d stress my mom out because everytime she’d pick her up, Pooka would start to shake, since she was so nervous.
Over the years, she got better; she put on the weight she needed (we could count her vertebrae and ribs), her hair thickened, she got confidence and did the “proprietor tour” of the yard, came to the door to welcome people… (I’m typing this at work, trying very hard not to cry)
But now she’s lost the weight, she doesn’t eat all that much, she’s completely blind and fairly incontinent – in brief, she’s old. She’s always been such a fragile thing, I don’t want to put her through the stress of going to the vet, getting her poked and prodded when she’s not hurt or sick (she won’t be able to see where she is) and scaring her half to death by taking her out of the house. She never adapted well, and we had a hard time with her when we moved 3 years ago – and she still had her full sight.
She’s clearly no longer a happy dog, she doesn’t enjoy life like she used to. So, yeah… 😥

While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
