It was the shipping postal place that wanted me to re-package it with less packaging, not the buyer…I was still shocked though. Make sure you try to double box anything going overseas no matter what…it’s safer. As for shipping expenses…I’m surprised people pay the rates but what are you gonna go?

That was my highest commissioned auction griffin that went for $250. The shipping was to Germany and it cost $80, which was a huge OUCH for the bidder. I hate telling people how much shipping outside the US costs because it’s just…so crazy! I was asked by the shippers to not package it so well to help reduce the cost but there was no way I was going to do that! I put it in the original Windstone box with bubble wrap and then into another box with packing peanuts. It did get to the owner in one piece and I really appreciate the bidder willing to pay the full shipping, though I offered to split the fee.
Wow, $80 for shipping is crazy and I can’t beleive that they wanted you to not to package it that well. And that was nice of you to offer to split shipping costs. I know a lot of people wouldn’t want to split it.
I agree…and its the buyer’s responsibility to check the shipping cost before bidding.
I wonder if Ski gets a special rate because she’s at a US military post? The shipping to the US in her current griffin auction in only $10, and she’s in Germany too…and she always double boxes and packages really well…

I knew you meant the shipping postal place. That is why I was shocked. Seems to me they wanted to pay for it if it got broken.
And if ppl want it bad enough and it isn’t available there then I am sure ppl would pay that much.January 4, 2007 at 10:24 pm #522342mimitrek wrote:dragonessjade wrote:Watergazer wrote:I likewise felt bad about the shipping price for the one Kestrel Griffin I did. Yeah, but did you notice it was $3.00 more to ship in the UK or canada. Pretty interesting.January 4, 2007 at 11:03 pm #522343Yeah, I was wondering about that too…seems like UK especially should be cheaper since its closer to Germany than the US. But maybe the US rates are lower because there’s a higher volume of mail coming here…
January 5, 2007 at 12:14 am #522344Well, the APO thing means she’s technically in the US. I shipped her a package, and it wasn’t international shipping.
January 5, 2007 at 1:23 am #522345That explains it then. Wow, the regular international shipping rates are crazy.
January 5, 2007 at 5:05 am #522346😆 Huh. No comment. LOL.
January 5, 2007 at 8:05 am #522347I always swallow a small loss when I ship. Its not a huge deal unless the item does not sell well. I do count as US because all the mail from here goes to NY in military hands (So its pretty much free) then it goes through the regular postal system once it hits NY. Shipping to Canada is always a few dollars more, and shipping to UK is even more than Canada, but I hardly get many UK bidders so my risk of losing even more money is kinda low. I just dont have a scale. I will get one soon, then I can do the calculated shipping, cuz I would rather not lose money on shipping, and I think handling charges are ridiculous.
January 5, 2007 at 8:56 am #522348Yes, Ski’s shipping is way different, and so is shipping to anything the US owns, like islands. It’s weird and not really at all fair when you come down to it. I get different rates with different places I go to ship through as well…one will quote me $80 and one will quote me $125…and then on a different day the same folks will price differently because of changes in the system or other such uncontrollable factors.
January 5, 2007 at 6:16 pm #522349And with more and more ppl paying their bills online that makes it so the Post Office gets less money.
