Finally completed…. Let me know what you think.
Photos here:
http://community.webshots.com/album/557749626TEAESt?start=36One I call ‘black flame’ for obvious reasons. For those interested, all the black on him was hand painted. His scales were basecoated in airbrush, first a layer of yellow, then a layer of orange, then red. Hand painting was also used on the scales for detail work. Pearl ex powdered pigment was used to give the goldish highlights within the fur and a slight metallic tint within the scales.
The other one is a lil’ pinto. He’s painted in an equine color called dark liver chestnut w/ shaded flaxen color tail. My first attempt at a pinto kirin. This piece has more airbrushing than the others I’ve done. His entire brown coat is all airbrush. The only handpainting done was the white markings, the tail, the pinking, and little bits of detail work here and there. You can see in the pattern detail on the scales, ‘hairing’ around the edges of the white pattern. This was a blonde moment on my part, as it did not dawn on me during painting that ‘hairing’ would not be appropriate when dealing with scales. . But, I just left him as is since I didn’t realize that until very recently. He’s already sealed and everything, and I just don’t really have the energy to go back in and rework him. I like the pinto kirin concept though.
Both are ebay pieces, should be online sometime tonight.
Thanks for looking!

March 12, 2007 at 11:53 pm #551339WOW 😯
March 12, 2007 at 11:54 pm #551340I like them both, but I really like the pinto. I was admiring the “hairing” and then went back and read your post that wasn’t “appropriate”. Shows what I know – I think it looks cool: -)
March 13, 2007 at 12:00 am #551341I like them both but I love your pinto! 😀

What she said…love the pinto!
March 13, 2007 at 12:17 am #551343They’re both awsome, but I think the pinto is my favorite, just because it’s different. 😀
March 13, 2007 at 12:22 am #551344I like both of them, especially the Pinto! He is so gorgeous! The markings are perfect! I’m sure they’ll both do really well on ebay. Well… I guess you can never predict ebay, but if there’s any justice they will!
Ski has got to see this one! She recently commissionned Arlla for a Pinto Kirin!
