To be notified when Grab Bag Tanukis are in the store be sure you are signed up with your current email address to our Notifications – there is a sign up button link in the lower right of the store home page: http://windstoneeditions.com/catalog The Tanuki is a new item for us, so this is the method we will use to email everyone when they are available. Please do not refresh our store a zillion times to see if they’ve been added (you may refresh your email a zillion times to see if they have been announced instead!)
Remember that you may not run auto-refreshing programs or scripts on our website to find out when something new has been added – those things slow everything WAY down and can result in the user being blocked from the site. If you have a program and you aren’t sure if its one of these, please contact us and we’ll be glad to let you know. susie@windstoneeditions.com
The Tanukis will not go into the store during the weekend (you can all relax!) – if all goes well, it will be some time next week. We do not have a price for them yet, nor have we settled the batch decision (one batch of all, or two batches separating the styles) – whichever it is, it will be One Per Customer Only, Please.

July 25, 2015 at 2:25 am #932361I’m not perfectly clear – if you decide to do two batches will we be able to order one per batch? Or just one Tanuki in either fancy or plain. Can your cart system make it so you can only order one or the other if there’s two batches? If not, it would seem like there would be issues. Lots of us read the forum but not all your customers do. It seems like it would be really hard to check each order, contact people who got both kinds, then try to sort out which kind to cancel. But you’d have to do something like that because it would be the only fair way if it was only one per person with two batch options. Not that I have a vote in the matter, but I think it makes more sense to either do two batches and allow one per batch, or to just do one large batch and make it one per person.

Of course, that means they would both be the same price, but that will be the case if they are sold in one batch as well. At least this way, it will be easier to limit it to one per person, but the buyer can still specify the batch they prefer. Or, say you can put your preference in the notes as a request, but there will be no guarantee that that type is what you will get – in case one type sells out first. So it will be like having one batch, but you have better odds of getting the type you want.
Just my thoughts.
July 25, 2015 at 10:22 am #932374If there are two batches, what about listing them as one listing with a drop down menu to choose which one you want, fancy or plain? Would that work with the number of each? If not I would say list them as two listings and just make it clear in each that if you already got one from the one batch, you cannot order one from the other batch. I think that would work as items have been restocked before that clearly stated if you got one in a previous batch to not get one from the restock and leave them for others who missed them before.

That would be a much more complicated option because it would take re-programming the website option to accomplish, then it would have to be tested out, and likely wouldn’t be able to be done in one week.
JMoore’s idea sounds pretty easy without modifying program code – selecting in the notes field which is your preference (fancy or plain), knowing that if that type sold out, you might not get your preference.
After seeing part of the livestream, I’m really torn now on which type. I thought I’d go with plain because I’m not usually a fan of leaf patterns, but some of the fancy’s were spectacular (and I haven’t finished watching the livestream yet), so I might try for fancy. What an amazing job Melody did painting these!
July 25, 2015 at 12:45 pm #932381I think easiest is going to just do both batches as a single mixed grab bag and leave it open to trading for what you really want. I know that leaves people open to not getting what they hoped for off the bat. But after watching the live stream. I cant say there were any that I would hate to get. Melody did a fantastic job on them all.
I had thought I was going for fantasy no matter what, but even the “plain” were far from plain. The shading and subtle designs put into a lot of them made me want several of the plain ones as well.Looking for:

For me, it really depends on the individual piece and not the style. I think one large batch is much the best option.
BTW … I don’t think all the tanukis divide neatly into “plain” or “fancy”. Some of the “plain” ones have a lot of shading or marbling on them. The “fancy” patterns range from quite simple to extremely elaborate – everything from tiger stripes to “River Rock Mosaic” and “Faberge”.

Same with me. I finally caught up with the hours of livestream that I missed. And, I kept waivering between plain & fancy.
My favorite is the river rock backed and the mantis shrimps. Does anyone know what group those are in – plain or fancy? I assumed fancy, but it’s hard to tell for certain.
July 27, 2015 at 12:24 am #932418EDIT – I am quite sure John said the river rock and the mantis shrimp were fancy.
I also came out of the live stream very conflicted. Going in, I was sure I wanted fancy, but after seeing the anything-but-plain, I have no idea which way I will go.

Thanks, Aggie! I was pretty sure that they’d be considered fancy, but some of the plains could easily be mistaken for fancy’s.
There were many of the plains that I wouldn’t mind having. Beautiful shading of the colors. Can’t wait for the sale announcement and to see what price they’ll be going for.
July 27, 2015 at 2:36 pm #932430So in the words of my children…if the tanukis come out tomorrow, it will be tanuki Tuesday instead of taco Tuesday lol.

When the two batches of Standing Baby Ki-Rins (Koi and Fantasy) came out and some people were able to get one each, I’m sure… But if it weren’t for the stragglers that Susie had, I would have totally missed out on both of the Standing Ki-Rin batches. I believe there were more of the Standing Ki-Rins, so I’m afraid that if the Tanukis are in two batches, I might totally miss out on these and not have a chance to get even one.
